No School Monday, January 4

Monday, January 4 has been designated as a remote instructional planning day for district staff. There will be no school for students on this day. This essentially extended winter break through January 4 so students will return from winter break on Tuesday, January 5.

Ridgeview Office Holiday Office Hours

The Ridgeview Office will remain closed during Winter Break to allow time with family. Please email building principal, Mr. Jefferson at with any questions or concerns.

If you need immediate assistance, please contact the district office at 309-691-3955.

Winter Benchmark Assessments

The Winter benchmark period opens when we return from winter break. Kindergarten students will take the STAR Early Literacy assessment. Students in grades 1 through 5 will take both the STAR Reading and STAR Math assessments. These assessments help us identify students who may need additional intervention in reading or math. The assessments also shows us the academic growth achieved since the beginning of the year. Individual student reports will be sent home on January 15th. If you have questions regarding these assessments or the schedule followed for your child's classroom, contact your child's teacher.

Wetlands Revitalization Project Update

We continue to make progress on the new Ridgeview Outdoor Learning Center which will exist within the wetlands area. There are before and after pictures included below to show the progress made from last spring until now. A committee consisting of PTO members and RES staff are working to create a certified outdoor learning space for students that would provide our students with a unique and enriched opportunity to expand their thinking and learning.

The Ridgeview Outdoor Learning Center would consist of several stations: 1) Fox Music & Movement, 2) Fox Sandpit Area, 3) Fox Garden, 4) Fox Climbing Area, 5) Fox Nature Art Area, 6) Fox Building Area, 7) Fox Water Area, 8) Arctic Fox Classroom w/canopy, 9) Red Fox Classroom w/decking, and 10) Silver Fox Classroom w/student benches.

Next year marks the 20 year anniversary of the opening of Ridgeview and we would like to have this project completed by the conclusion of next school year. We have recently added a mulch path. The next steps are to add signage for each of our learning stations and the planter boxes for the Garden Area.

Birthday Treats

During this phase of reopening, all Dunlap elementary schools are postponing birthday treats. Dunlap elementary schools are trying to limit, to the best of our ability, items being brought into school from the outside. Your child's birthday will still be recognized and celebrated within their classroom.

Picture Re-Take Day

For those in-person and remote learners who were not able to have their picture taken during our recent picture day, we have scheduled a re-take day for Tuesday, January 26th. In-person retakes will be taken in the afternoon during the school day and remote retakes will take place after school in the gym between 2:45-4:15.

encouraging all our families to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity while it’s available.

Remote E-Learners only are encouraged to sign up online. We offer Free meal pick up from all

our schools. Please go to locate the eLearning information and look for

Dunlap Meal Program Form. Pick up times are very tight and strict as cooks are needed back in buildings to serve in-school meals.

Eligible children: 18 years and younger, in district or out and one free meal per child per day

with no forms to fill out. Students will order meals as usual with teacher or come through lunch

In School Information: **Ala carte items, extra milk and milk needed for meals brought from

home will still need to be purchased regardless of your meal benefits. Send Questions to Lisa Leitner, Food Service Director

Student Work Packet Pickup Dates/Times

Fridays are the designated day for remote pick up. Remote learner pick up items can be obtained in the lobby between 7AM and 3:30PM each Friday.

In-person teachers may leave packets for students any time as those circumstances are constantly changing. In-person item(s) can only be picked up between 7AM and 3:30PM.

Physical Education Excuses

A parent/guardian may excuse a student from physical education for up to two days. Any long term physical education excuse must be requested in writing from the student’s health care provider, specifying the length of time your child is to be exempted. A written note from the health care provider should be submitted for the student to resume full activities. Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will not be allowed to participate in outdoor recess activities. Re-injury on the playground could occur, resulting in prolonging the child’s healing and recovery period. A student who is excused from PE may read a book on the Fox Bench in the Commons during outdoor recess. Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will not be permitted to participate in school sponsored sports.

Chromebook Tech Support for Remote Learners

The Ridgeview website has a 1:1 Technology button that will help answer the majority of parent questions regarding Canvas FAQ, Chromebook care and Google/Chromebook FAQ. Take some time to familiarize yourself with where to go to find technology assistance.

If you are experiencing any issues with your Chromebook, and cannot find the answers to your questions on any of the tabs in the 1:1 Technology button on the Ridgeview website, please contact the Dunlap IT help desk at

Classroom teachers will not be able to support any issues with technology aside from general login instructions for district platforms.

Dunlap District School Closing Information

Please look for Dunlap District 323 when school closures are announced as Ridgeview Elementary is part of Dunlap District 323.

When are decisions made?

A decision to cancel school may occur between 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. the night before school. In most instances, no later than 6:30 a.m. the next day. In an extreme emergency, we may have to announce early dismissal during the school day. Please read through Dunlap District 323 school closing information.

School closings will be communicated in the following ways:

· School Messenger Phone/Email System/Text Messaging

· TV Stations – Channels 19, 25, 31, and 43

· Local Radio Stations - All local stations

· Dunlap School District Voicemail System

· Notification on

· Dunlap Facebook page

School emergency closings could happen at any time of the year. Parents need to arrange plans with their children (a neighbor, childcare, employer, etc.) on what is expected should an emergency closing occur. Decisions for closure, delayed start or to dismiss school early are always a judgment call; however, we do use some general criteria in making such decisions.

Outdoor Recess

As stated on page 10 of the Dunlap Elementary Student Handbook, Students have planned recess periods throughout the day to provide a break from the structured academic program. Since recess usually will be held outdoors, students must dress appropriately for these play periods. As a rule, all children are expected to participate in recess when the temperature is 15 degrees or above (this includes wind chill temperatures).

Visitors and Volunteers

In an effort to follow the guidelines set forth for our return to school, visitors will only be allowed in very unique and absolutely necessary circumstances. These visits would have to be pre-approved by building administration ahead of time. Lunch guests will not be allowed due to the factors indicated previously as well as capacity limitations.

A pick up/drop off corner has been established in the foyer for items that need to be dropped off or picked up. Please call to alert office staff (309-243-7717) ahead of time if you have an item to drop off and be sure to clearly label the item with your child's name and their teacher.
