Sunday's Gospel Reading
Mark 14:12-16,22-26 Jesus shares his Last Supper with his disciples.
Family Connection
In the beginning of Sunday's Gospel, Jesus instructs his disciples to make preparations for the Passover meal. Like most meals, the Passover meal required planning and preparation. Our celebration of the Sunday Eucharist also requires planning and preparation. Certainly the ministers at the Eucharist prepare for their roles: the person presiding prays and prepares the homily; the prayers of petition are written; the music ministers prayerfully select music and practice it before Mass; Eucharistic ministers, lectors and altar servers prepare carefully for their roles. As the worshiping assembly, we can also prepare for the Mass through our prayer during the week, by reading the Scripture before Mass, and by making ourselves present to the Eucharistic celebration.
As you gather as a family, talk about some of the things that are required to prepare for your family meals. Plan together a special Sunday meal by choosing the menu, preparing the shopping list, and assigning duties for cooking, setting the table, preparing decorations, leading the prayers, and cleaning. Read Sunday's Gospel, Mark 14:12-16,22-26. Notice how Jesus instructed his disciples to prepare for their Passover meal. All meals require some kind of planning and preparation; so, too, our Sunday Eucharist requires planning. What might we do as a family to better prepare for our celebration of the Eucharist? Choose one or more ideas to begin to implement together as a family. Pray together that God will help your family make your celebration of the Eucharist the highlight of your week. Pray together the Lord’s Prayer.

St. Luke Catholic School Vision Statement
We are a faith-filled school that embraces the spiritual, physical, emotional, and academic wellness of our community. Infused with God’s love, we guide, inspire and challenge one another to achieve our greatest potentials, believing that we have the capacity to make a difference in the world.
"And the child grew and became strong in spirit filled with wisdom; and the grace of GOD was upon him.” ~Luke 2:40
We are excited to share our school's new vision statement. Staff and families were invited to contribute and the message above is what we agreed upon. Our next step is to come up with a mission statement, short statement reflecting our vision and purpose, for St. Luke. We invite families and students to submit their idea for a mission statement.
School News
Drink Water
We would appreciate you reminding your child(ren) to drink water especially during these hot days. We encourage all students to bring water bottles with them to school.
Track and Field
Our annual track meet at Strathcona Athletic park was a great success! We were blessed by gorgeous weather, and students had a blast competing against their friends. The sportsmanship that the students showed, cheering each other on, was heartwarming. In Grade 5-8, students that receive a first place ribbon, get to go on to the Elk Island Catholic School, EICS, district track meet, where they compete against the best of the best in our school division. A few of our students were successful in placing in the district track meet.
Congratulations:
Dominic Michie - 1st in Javelin and High Jump
Teagan Norris - 1st in 100m
Cara O’Brien - 1st in Standing Long Jump
Breanne Gulbraa - 2nd in Javelin
Students in grades 7-8 who placed 1st or 2nd in the EICS district track meet go on and compete against other school districts in the Edmonton and Area on June 5th. We wish the following students all the best at the Zones competion:
Hailey O’Brien - 2nd in Running Long Jump
William Parsons - 2nd in Javelin
Daniel Capper - 2nd in Triple Jump
Library
All library books are due Friday, June 8th. Here a link to a video that Mrs. Hill found to help you remember.
WE Team News
The WE Team raised over $350 from their after-school activity fundraiser this month. With this money, we have been able to provide: one year of healthy lunches for a child, one school supplies kit, clean water for life for one person, and health care for two moms and their infants. This was a great success and we are incredibly appreciative of our WE Team student initiatives and all who were able to take part!
Provincial Busing Survey
The department of Education with the Alberta government would like to get Alberta families views on student transportation and the student transportation eligibility criteria. To do so, they are conducting an online survey that will close on June 15, 2018.
These responses will help the government determine if changes are needed to the student transportation system, and if so, what changes to make.
To share your thoughts and priorities on the student transportation criteria, please fill out the online survey.
