A Message from Principal Boucher
Spring Lake Park High School families:
I want to start by thanking our student council for organizing last week’s spirit week and taking time to decorate the building accordingly. Seeing students and staff, both in-person and remotely, participate and celebrate being part of our school community was great. I am #SLPPantherProud to be a part of this school and to work and learn alongside our staff, students and families.
Tomorrow, November 5, all of our high school students will be fully transitioned to the Extended Flexible Learning (distance) model. Students should log on at their course start time for a full day of learning. Our teachers have had a productive start to the week planning and collaborating to deliver valuable learning experiences. We have spent time as a staff sharing and learning new tools and resources. I look forward to seeing many of these implemented throughout the remainder of the trimester and beyond.
Attendance will be taken and recorded at the end of each period based on student attendance in the "live" session for the period. Parents should continue to call the attendance line at 763-600-5109 to report a student absence when a student is unable to attend school in person, and/or participate in "live" sessions, and/or complete daily work expectations. If students are experiencing frequent absences, staff will be reaching out to identify and resolve access concerns or other barriers to participating in instruction.
Opportunities to learn at school will be through invitation. Last week, I outlined the circumstances when a student may be invited in for opportunities to learn at school. Here are a few updates:
- For students who have an identified need for support or intervention: We have been calling parents/guardians of students to invite students in on designated days. If your student has been identified to continue to receive supports at school, you will receive a phone call/invitation by the end of today, Wednesday, November 4.
- For other learning opportunities that cannot be delivered or assessed well at a distance (such as some labs, music, art, assessments, etc.): These will be determined on a week-to-week basis. Teachers will list/identify invitations for any at school learning opportunities on the course materials page in Schoology on their weekly overview. Overviews will be available Friday evenings for the upcoming week.
Transportation will continue to be offered on the traditional morning and afternoon bus route schedule for students invited to learning at school. Students are welcome to self-transport or be dropped off and picked up if they are coming in for less than a full-day experience.
Despite it being a highly unusual year, we continue to find ways to offer opportunities we offer in a “normal” year. November is Career Development month and the counseling team will host a variety of online events and guest speakers to talk about their careers throughout the month. Please encourage your student to participate. Learn more in the Need to Know section.
Thank you for your support as we all balance health, safety and learning. We hope people will follow public health guidance and encourage friends and neighbors to do the same so we can successfully reduce the spread of this virus in our community and return students to our classrooms. In the meantime, we will continue our work to make our learning models as effective as possible and modify and adjust as we go.
Regards,
Matthew Boucher
Principal

Transportation during distance learning for SLPHS
Bus routes for the high school will continue to run to transport students for any learning at school time identified on the student's schedule for the week. Students can ride their normal bus route on days when they have time scheduled at school and remain at school for the day. We will have spaces within the building students can use – with supervision – to participate in their other classes while they are at school for the "at school" component of their day. Bus routes will run Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
November is Career Exploration Month at SLPHS
Career Exploration Month is here! Due to Extended Flexible Learning being implemented for the remainder of Trimester 1, the SLPHS Counseling Team will host career speakers all month during online classes. Courses offering speakers will be posted in Schoology for students and on our Career and College Readiness website for parents to view who is speaking and when. If your student is interested in attending a session but are not in the class where the presentation is happening you may message Ms. Blaido, Counselor for Career and College Readiness, and request the link for logging in during the session. Please be sure to ask in advance so we can arrange your student’s commitments to their other classes.
During Career Exploration month, one-to-one meeting sessions will be available during the last week of November. Students will be able to sign-up and meet with industry leaders for Q&A. The counseling and Pathways Programming teams are also working to provide our students with a Career Fair this spring, either virtual or in person.
SLPHS theater performed "Vital Signs"
As the saying goes, "the show must go on!" 🌟 The Spring Lake Park High School Theater took a unique approach to their expression of art last Friday by putting on solo performances, collectively called "Vital Signs." Each student performed a play in miniature, creating a compelling collage of individual characters and their stories.
