Reteaching With Release Conditions

Driving Student Learning Paths

What are Release Conditions?

Release conditions allow you to create a custom learning path through the materials in your course. When you attach a release condition to an item, users cannot see that item until they meet the associated condition. For example, you could attach a release condition to the second topic in your course’s content area that would hide that topic until users viewed the topic before it. Or you could create a condition that required users to view a content topic before gaining access to a quiz, or one that required them to post to a discussion topic before they could see a content module.

Learning Paths

Using release conditions to introduce, reinforce or reteach a concept can help to ensure students are learning rather than simply clicking through the information. In this example, 8th grade math teachers identified a weak AKS based on a common assessment. Teachers worked together to build a module that could be used from home or in school as a reteaching opportunity. Students watched videos to review the concept, worked practice problems, and took a 5 question quiz.

Upon successful completion of the quizzes, students were awarded their "ticket to retest." Students could print this certificate or mention it to their math teacher and schedule their retest. Reteaching using online videos and practice can help offer students a "different voice;" while release conditions help ensure students are working through the information to master the standard.
