Newsletter - week 4, Term 1
East Gore School 24 February 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings
What a busy couple of weeks around the school. Athletics practice is well underway with each class heading out on to the field to practice all the skills required to participate in each of the events. Mrs Morton has a plan for holding our athletics day for the students. Unfortunately we can't have our parents and whanau enjoy this with us so we will share many photos of the competition.
It is our top priority to keep everyone safe and updated as we move through the phases, so I just want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can. We are well versed in hand washing/sanitising, mask wearing in the senior school and staying home if students are not well as well as following all Ministry of Health and Education advice. Today I will be sharing through Seesaw the schools continuity plan so you know our plans to keep the school operating.
I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all parents and caregivers who are letting us know when their child/ren are away from school and the reason why. It is important for us to know the "why" so we can code the roll accurately. If we do not hear from you then we will mark the roll as truant.
And lastly, I want to check that everyone is connected to their child's Seesaw account and our school app. This is a quick way for us to communicate with everyone or separate classes in our school. If you are not connected to Seesaw, please make contact with the school and we can send home a QR code or help you set it up on your device.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā (have a great weekend).

With parents and caregivers waiting at the gate, it feels like a divide between teachers and parents. If you need to speak to a teacher, pop a mask on and talk to your child's teacher. If something comes up outside of pick up and drop off times you can always message your child's teacher through Seesaw (this is just like messenger where you can have a private conversation) or you can email your child's teacher directly. For the wellbeing of the teachers, I have told them not to reply to emails (or messages) after 5:30pm as they will be spending time with their own families.

From the Board of Trustees...
At this meeting the Board accepted the resignation of Shelley Nicholls who has been a Board member for the last 2 years. The Board would like to thank Shelley for all her time and energy she has brought to each meeting and wish her all the best with her future endeavours.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Board and all the things they do, make contact with the school and Ken (chairperson) or Wendy will be happy to talk through this with you.
