Important Message from Mrs. Clark
Families of Parsons Elementary,
We've been washing our hands while we sing the ABCs because that is what you do at an elementary school-LOL!
While the Gwinnett County Public School System does not have a confirmed case of COVID-19, the district is aware of concerns in the community about the spread of this virus in our state and surrounding areas.
The district is closely monitoring this fluid situation and following guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Georgia Health Department, Gwinnett County Department of Health and the Georgia Department of Education.
Our priority is to ensure we are taking steps such as cleaning and disinfecting throughout the building to minimize the spread of viruses and a variety of other illnesses. The following steps have been shared on the morning announcements with our students and staff to minimize the spread of all respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, according to the state Department of Health:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing the ABCs) and/or use hand sanitizer often.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or the cuff of your elbow.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Should the district make the decision to close schools, we need to be prepared for Digital Learning Days. We sent a survey home on Wednesday asking parents to share their access to technology at home. Digital Learning Days would require students to log on to the student portal daily to complete assignments posted by their teachers (No more than 3 to 4 hours). Just yesterday, our teachers were preparing for the potential of additional DL days and the use of ScreencastMatic where they could record themselves teaching and then post the video to eClass for students to view.
Our students have been using eClass in class and teachers post a weekly eClass homework assignment so that our students are familiar with the eClass tools. We feel confident that our staff and our students are ready for potential Digital Learning Days, if needed. I encourage you to talk to your kiddos about what the expectation at home would be if we were to have Digital Learning Days in the upcoming weeks.
We are a strong community and the interest of our students is of the utmost importance to us all. What lies ahead is unpredictable, but I hope you know that we take the safety and education of our students very seriously.
Please refer to the GCPS website for any further updates.
