The Gower Gazette
Week 1- July 14, 2023
In the Classroom...
We practiced counting to 100 in math through different songs and even did a little subitizing to see if we could recognize the number of objects in a set. The kids worked with partners this week to count objects in our mystery bags and learned how to do rally coach. They loved having the opportunity to be the coach!
We started working on our handwriting and learning how the letters sit on the lines. We refer to the lines like a house. The top line is the attic, the middle is the ceiling of the house and the bottom line is the floor. We are working mostly on our lowercase letters so most of these start at the ceiling and stop on the floor, but there are a few letters that go into the basement. Ask your child if they know a letter that does this.
For Social Studies, we are working on understanding our feelings. We had some stories this week that helped us see and understand how the characters in the books felt. The kids loved doing mix-pair-share to share their connections to the stories. Today, we had a little emoji fun. The kids created an emoji to match their feelings and then they wrote about it. They turned out super cute!
That wraps up our week! It's been fun getting to know your children. I can already tell it is going to be a great year! Be sure to scroll down for important dates as well as information. I hope you all have a terrific weekend.
Take Care,
Ms. Gower

Notes-
- All About Bags- Be sure to send these in on Monday so the kids can share a little about themselves with their friends.
- Friday Folders- On Fridays, your child will bring home a Friday Folder with some of the work he/she did during the week. You can pull their work out of the folder to look through and keep at home. You will also be able to see their work habits & conduct grade for the week along with some comments from me about how your child’s week went. Please read over the comments and initial that you saw them. There will be a space where you can share comments as well if needed. Friday Folders will need to be returned to school every Monday.
- School Pictures- We have school pictures on Thursday, July 20th at 3:10. That is at the end of the day. We will do our best to keep the kids clean for their pictures.
- Class Social- We have our ice cream social on Thursday, July 20th right after school. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents as well as get to know Mrs. Bennett and myself. I hope to see you there. Please note that Sunni Skies does not accept credit or debit cards so you need to bring cash or check to buy ice cream.
- Supplies- Some of the kids are missing their supplies. Please look in your child's Friday Folder for a checklist of items your child needs. If there is not a checklist in the folder then we have everything in for your child.
- Class Website- I did not have an opportunity to update my class website this week for the interactive activities. I apologize. I will be updating it this weekend though so look for a math stumper and flipgrid prompt. It is totally optional to do, but your child will earn a special treat for completing these tasks.
- Book Challenge/Reading Log- Did you notice the blue book challenge in your child's homework folder? The books you record on this can be books your child reads, listens to, or reads with you. When they fill up the sheet then they will earn lunch with me. I can't wait!
- PTA Popsicle Social- This Saturday from 11-1 at Fleming Loop Park! Swing by for a popsicle and meet other families from our school. You can also join the PTA.
