From Mrs. Andersen (PK-6 Principal)
Happy Easter!
Travel safely and enjoy time with family on this four day weekend. There will be no school, Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10.
Thank you, Paraprofessionals!
Thank you to our amazing paraprofessionals in the DLB elementary! We have ten paraprofessionals that help many students in the elementary, monitor lunch, and help with all recesses. We are lucky to have these 10 awesome people to help our students! Today, April 6, is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, so if you know a para, give them a shout-out!
Another Pie to the Face!
Mr. Bachmeier came down at the last assembly on March 30th to get his pie to the face since he missed last month's assembly. The crowd went wild when Mrs. Bachmeier got to deliver the pie to her husband's face!
March Star Lakers
March focused on the Laker Value, accountability. Teachers and paras watch students each day to see who carries out this trait, as well as, being a good student each day.

Students sang five songs with a slumber party theme, danced their hearts out, and many students had lines between songs. The music concert was on March 30th and students did an amazing job! Thank you, Mrs. Bachmeier for the awesome music concerts this year!
School-Wide Title I Meeting
There was a school-wide Title meeting on Tuesday, March 28th at 6:00pm. The meeting discussed what school-wide Title is; the MTSS process; school Reading curriculum; math and reading goals; and family engagement activities. Mr. and Mrs. Bachmeier
From Mrs. Fischer (PreK-6 Counselor)
All-School Unity Project
In January we talked about embracing our own unique qualities and the unique qualities of those around us! All K-6th grade students contributed to the poster to represent this uniqueness among each of us stating, "We are each unique and beautiful, but together we are a masterpiece." Students each traced one hand and colored or wrote things that make them unique. This poster was put together to unify our school and represent each student in one big project!
From Mrs. Schaefer (7-12 Counselor)
Juniors took the ACT on March 7th. They have received their scores through their MyACT account email. Mrs. Schaefer will review their scores with them in a classroom lesson in April.
Sophomores are finished with the ND State Assessment. Results will be reviewed with the students before the end of the school year.
0 Hour student permission forms are due to Mrs. Schaefer by April 21st. For more information go to her website: https://sites.google.com/dlblakers.com/counselors-corner/home and look under the 0 Hour link.
There are several scholarships due this month. Many are not just for graduating seniors. All scholarship information received by Mrs. Schaefer is posted on her website. STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
DLB STUDENTS ATTEND NORTH DAKOTA FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
16 Members of the Des Lacs - Burlington Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the 56th annual North Dakota FBLA State Leadership Conference April 2 – 3, 2023. Over 60 FBLA chapters from across the state participated in this conference, connecting approximately 1,150 middle and high school students to test business skills against their peers from around the state.
The most exciting aspect of the conference is the competitive events program. Students have the opportunity to test the business skills they’ve learned in the classroom in a variety of individual, team, and chapter events. Students can enter events such as accounting, computer applications, public speaking, job interview, website design, or business ethics. The culmination of the competitive events program is the awards ceremony where winners are recognized for their accomplishments, and we find out who will represent North Dakota at the National Leadership Conference this summer. In addition to the competitive events program, students had the opportunity to attend workshops, vote for the 2023-24 state officer team, and network with members from around the state. This year, members also had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Brooks Harper, with his keynote “Turning Learning Into Earning” showing students how academic success, relationships, leadership opportunities and digital citizenship impacts their college and career options and future earning potential.
State Place Winners and National Qualifiers:
1st Place: Sports & Entertainment Management (Katelynn Berg, Ella Brown, and Ava Feist)
3rd Place: Marketing (Ava Brown, Laney Wahus, and Logen Ystaas)
3rd Place: Publication Design (Shaylie Holen and Martina Quetglas Bran)
4th Place: Organizational Leadership (Katelynn Berg)
FBLA is a professional organization for students interested in pursuing business careers. This year’s theme of “One Association for Service, Education & Progress” reflects the goals of FBLA members, some of the best and brightest of today’s young people. The mission of FBLA is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. To learn more, visit FBLA’s website at www.fbla.org, ND FBLA’s website at www.nd-fbla.org or visit us on Facebook at ND FBLA or Instagram at northdakotafbla.
