Attendance Policy
In 2018, our school district adopted a new attendance policy. Due to COVID, the protocol for attendance was different than the norm. We have resumed protocols with our attendance policy, with the understanding of many extenuating family circumstances.
Here are some reminders about school attendance:
· School attendance is mandatory for children six years of age and older by Colorado State Law.
· For attendance tracking purposes, an absence is counted, whether it is excused or not.
· An absence occurs when a student misses more than 45 minutes of a morning or afternoon learning period.
· After 4 absences, the school will mail a letter to families notifying them of the number of absences.
· After 6 absences, a meeting will be scheduled with the principal and family to create an Attendance Improvement Plan.
· After 9 absences, a meeting may be held with the family and the School District Attendance Review Board.
· A tardy occurs if a student arrives between 8:05 and 8:45, or leaves between 2:40 and 3:25.
· Families are encouraged to provide the school with documentation of doctor’s appointments when students are absent for health appointments.
· Families are encouraged to meet with the school administration prior to any extended family vacations in order to complete the Attendance Improvement Plan.
The purpose of this district policy is to ensure that students are present at school to the greatest extent possible. We want to work with families to reduce the number of absences and ensure the greatest amount of learning for all of our students.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the attendance policy.
6th Grade Field Trip Fundraiser!
The fundraiser dates are scheduled for 2/21-3/7 with delivery to take place on 3/16.
Orders can be placed with 6th grade students or online! Each 6th grader's name will be on the website; however, if parents would like to order and don't know a specific 6th grader, they can order under their child's grade level (Kinder, 1st, 2nd, etc.)
CMAS Testing Dates
Our annual state student assessments begin in March. This year PK8 students will be taking CMAS (3rd-8th grade Language Arts and Math and 5th & 8th grade Science) tests. Each scheduled day of testing will include one online testing session of approximately 60 minutes.
7th Grade: March 30-April 1, April 4-6
6th Grade: March 30-April 1, April 4-6
5th grade March 22-25, 28-29, April 12-14
4th Grade April 7-8, 11-14
3rd Grade April 7-8, 11-14
Students will only take one test on each of these days in our tech lab (unless they must take
make-ups). Our experience tells us that students test better with their class, so please try and schedule around these dates.

Big Little Hearts, a virtual grief support group
Join HopeWest Kids for Big Little Hearts, a virtual grief support group for adults who are supporting children or teens experiencing grief. The group is a safe and caring place to explore grief and its impact on the family.
Big Little Hearts offers education and support regarding the grieving process through topics of discussion, Q&A, handouts and activity ideas for families. We ask that participants commit to attending all six sessions in order to receive the full benefit of the support.
