Heading towards the finish line at Page Middle School
Working together is our key to success!
Team Building towards success
Our CISSA Site Coordinator at Page Middle School, Ms. Lori Garcia, is superb at introducing team-building activities that really challenge our students. On this particular day, we were tasked to move a Hoola Hoop around our group circle while setting time oriented goals. The hoop had to moved around the circle with everyone holding the hands of the person to their left and to their right. The first trial was completed in one minute and 25 seconds. Ms. Garcia set time goals that were 10 seconds lower than the previous time(s). It was very challenging to both students, and Mr. Amun (MSP Teacher). So much so, that after three unsuccessful attempts at lowering the time, we had group discussions about what we could do collectively to reach our time goal(s). What was learned was, when groups plan together and continually communicate all things are possible. Eventually, we were able to get the hoop around the circle in under one minute! Although the activity created a lot of funny moments and laughter, we all learned the valuable lesson of the importance of group communication.
MSP students at Page getting fresh air to clear our minds.
As we know, middle school can be the most trying time for students, and may be the most difficult level for teachers to teach. The MSP cohort at Page periodically goes outside for fresh air, and a chance for us just to clear our heads. What we've found is that breaking up the everyday routine with some fresh air often works wonderfully. This picture of us is one such occasion.
Incentives for success!!
One of the ways in which we try to ensure that students give their best effort(s), is to provide incentives. Ms. Garcia (CISSA), came up with the idea of allowing our students to choose an item from her gift box whenever they get more than two lessons in a day. This seems to be working out pretty well thus far. Students seem to like to have choices, and her gift box provides just that reward when students excel. Alexandra Sierra (L), and Anastasia Perez, both enjoy such opportunities.
STUDENTS OF THE WEEK
These are two of Page's best!!
Anastasia Perez (left), and Gage Pulliam (right), are both recipients of our Student of the Week, here at Page Middle School. Both of these young people were chosen because of the great example of diligence they display daily. Anastasia is our MSP student of the week, and Gaige is our campus' student of the week. Both students are doing very well in both their Partners work and their eighth grade core. We are proud to call them ponies!
