Director of Curriculum-Mathematics

The Bronx Charter School for Children (BCSC), an independent charter school founded in 2004 serving 432 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx, seeks to hire a Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Mathematics (DCI/Math). The DCI/Math will join the school’s leadership team and have primary responsibility for delivering a program of excellence in mathematics, for developing and refining a Common Core aligned curriculum, and providing instructional leadership and targeted coaching for teachers. The successful candidate will be a major contributor to improving teacher practice and student achievement as a member of a growing and engaged BCSC Professional Learning Community (PLC). The DCI/Math will report to the Head of School and will supervise a team of two Math coaches.

The ideal candidate will possess expert levels of Math instructional practices, be data-wise and hands-on, be adept at reviewing student assessment data and then translating the findings into strategies and tactical interventions teachers can immediately use. S/he should be an evidence-based, results-driven instructional leader who pushes the team to higher performance through powerful mentoring, collaboration with peers, a strong focus on students and their different learning needs, and the craft of teaching.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should have most, if not all, of the following:

§ Minimum of five (5) years highly effective Math teaching experience in an urban setting

§ Demonstrated, sustained track record of high achievement in the classroom

§ Demonstrable hands-on expertise in supervising and developing teachers as well as extensive, current knowledge of effective curricular approaches and interventions

§ Strong foundational background in Mathematics

§ Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and “roll‐up‐my‐sleeves” attitude

§ Passionate commitment to do whatever it takes to raise student achievement, and a personal sense of accountability for the success of BCSC students and staff

§ Masters Degree in relevant discipline

Director of Talent Management

The Bronx Charter School for Children (BCSC) is excited to announce its search for a Director of Talent Management (DTM). Opened in 2004, in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx, with 132 students in Kindergarten and 1st grade, the Bronx Charter School for Children has grown to a full Kindergarten through 5th grade independent charter school serving 432 students. BCSC enjoys a strong school community, a highly engaged constituency, and financial stability. Taking seriously its challenge of providing a rigorous elementary academic program that instills habits of inquiry and critical thinking in its students, BCSC accomplishes these goals within a safe and nurturing environment. The school community sees its larger mission as one of helping to break the cycle of poverty in the poorest urban Congressional District in the United States.

The Director of Talent Management is a new position at the school. To support the BCSC mission and vision of excellence, there is a need for an intentional investment in a leadership role focused on talent recruitment, development and retention. The successful candidate will join the school’s leadership team as its chief human capital officer, with primary responsibility for creating a talent recruitment, development, and retention system to attract exceptional teachers, instructional leaders and administrators. The DOTM is also responsible for managing traditional human resources functions. He or she will also assume a support role for BCSC’s performance evaluation system. The Director of Talent Management will report to the Head of School.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should have most, if not all, of the following:

§ Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree strongly desired in related field (human relations, communications, management, etc.)

§ Minimum of five years full-time related talent management/HR experience, preferably in a leadership role and in education

§ Ability to apply current trends and best practices in talent management to cultivate a first-rate BCSC workforce and a highly qualified pipeline

§ Project management and organization. Ability to execute competing priorities effectively;including in ambiguous situations that require figuring out solutions, rather than clearly pre-established paths for success.

§ Ability to critically assess candidates for skills, intangibles/culture fit.

§ Superb networking and relationship building skills, ideally with an extensive existing network in education, and ability to make strong connections to expand BCSC’s recruiting reach

§ Expertise in full cycle recruiting, coupled with the desire to create a human capital system

§ Analytic and open-minded when it comes to making judgments about people and roles

§ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

§ Personal sense of accountability for the success of all BCSC students and staff

Leadership Opportunities: KIPP (Nationwide)


KIPP seeks exemplary candidates who are interested in serving as founding principals for its newest elementary, middle, and high schools. Each prospective founding KIPP principal must be accepted into and successfully complete the Fisher Fellowship (a component of the KIPP School Leadership Programs), a one-year paid fellowship which prepares Fellows through development and coaching to open KIPP schools.


The Miles Family Fellowship prepares fellows to lead a KIPP school in two years, as a founder or successor school leader. The fellowship includes an intensive Summer Institute in Chicago and individualized support through a site visit and year-long leadership coaching.

In order to start the conversation, we’re hosting our inaugural School Design Competition to bring together passionate educators, entrepreneurs, innovators and designers to identify truly break-the-mold school models.

Applicants to the competition are eligible to apply for a $10,000 planning grant to assist them in developing their ideas. The winner of the competition will receive a $50,000 grant to refine their plan in anticipation of submitting it to The Mind Trust's full Charter School Design Challenge.
