Hunting Ridge Hawk Happenings

Happy New Year, 2022!

Hunting Ridge Families:

We hope this message is finding everyone happy and healthy, enjoying the close of one year and welcoming 2022! On behalf of all of us at Hunting Ridge, we wish everyone a new year of happiness and blessings.

As we return, we will be wrapping up our December focus on kindness with a class activity to keep this trait at the forefront of our interactions with each other. As we welcome students back to learning, we will be using our first week together to reset expectations to help students get back into the routine of school. At the same time, this reset allows us to share routines and procedures with new students and families to Hunting Ridge.

The January - March stretch of the year is a very important one. We need your help to keep everyone healthy and coming to school each day so that we can maximize our learning time with your children. Please help us make sure to have our 3rd-6th grade student Chromebooks fully charged each night.

COVID-19:

Upon our return, we will no longer be checking lanyards or taking student temperatures. Please make sure that your child is symptom-free before coming to school. We ask for your help in sending an extra mask or two with your child. Throughout the day, masks tend to become soiled or lost. We appreciate your help in preparing your child for this.

Parent University - Parents, come learn with us!

Did you know that D15 has a Parent University? https://www.ccsd15.net/site/default.aspx?PageID=9813 Watch our website for way to keep parents connected to our learning in D15 and to keep the learning happening at home!

Lost and Found Bin:

Is your child missing a jacket or a water bottle? Please come in and take a look through our bin. We have a full bin of many coats and jackets. We have all items in the lobby for parents or students to look through if needed. We want to make sure we get these items back to kids for the weather change.

Mental Health Awareness for 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Students

During the month of February, our students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will participate in a presentation to focus on mental health. Erika’s Lighthouse has historically focused on teen depression, but this program for grades 4-6 provides a more introductory approach to mental health and focuses on the idea of being able to identify the differences between everyday feelings and overwhelming feelings. While many elementary students have already been engaged in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) exercises, it is important to continue the conversation so students can learn what to do if they are not feeling well. Included is an informational parent/guardian letter and opt out form for parents to sign if they do not wish their child to participate. Please return opt out forms only, to your child's teacher, by January 14, 2022.

Phones and Watches at School

We want to send out a gentle reminder about the use of cell phones and Apple watches during the school day. In the event a child needs to use the phone, our staff can help ensure access to a school phone. Our D15 student handbook clearly outlines details that may be important to review with your child. We encourage all parents to carefully monitor the access your child has to online content and social media apps.

  • All cell phones and cellular wrist devices must be kept powered off and kept in backpacks or lockers during the school day, unless the device is noted within a school plan for health or safety reasons.
  • Using a cell phone to record, take photographs, or send images or information may disrupt the learning environment or violate the rights or other students.

Cold Weather

The weather is changing. Please make sure that students are prepared for the weather. We recommend dressing in layers that are marked with your child's name on each item. When the snow begins, students wanting to play in the snow will need boots, snow pants, and gloves. Feel free to send clothing in a bag to make it easier for kinds to place their clothing in one place. Please have your child practice putting on boots, gloves, snow pants, and zipping coats. This will help your child transition inside and outside more independently.

Anyone interested in making a donation? We can always use new underwear and socks for students that may need a change during the day. Sizes 4-6 and 6-8 to support our youngest kiddos are welcome.

Need assistance? Please reach out to Kara Marks at 847-963-5341.

Arrival and Dismissal

For parents, we know arrival and dismissal can be a very trying time. We are here to help better define the system to allow for a safe, calm environment for our students. Adults supervising will be wearing safety vests so students can easily identify them.

Current Arrival and Dismissal Times Until Tuesday, February 22, 2022:

  • Students arrive between 8:30 - 8:40 AM; First bell rings at 8:40 AM; Students in class by 8:45 AM.

  • Morning kindergarten dismissal: M-Th, 11:20 AM; Friday, 10:55 AM

  • Afternoon kindergarten arrival: M-Th, 12:45 PM, Friday, 12:20 PM

  • Afternoon dismissal: M-Th: 3:25 PM, Friday, 2:35 PM

How can you help?

  • Please use the car drop-off in the Mallard lot. Pull up to the white sign so that other cars can pull up and safely unload at one time.
  • If using the drop off zone, please wait patiently until the car moves. The Mallard lot is right turn only to exit until 8:45 AM.
  • If using the drop off zone, do not leave your vehicle. Have your child exit the car on the passenger side. All materials should be in the passenger compartment of your car. Your student should be able to grab all items independently. Otherwise, please park and walk your child to the blacktop area.
  • When any bus is still in the parking lot, there should be no movement of any cars. Please remain in your parking spot until all buses have left the lot.
  • Please do not park along Harvard for arrival and dismissal. Our drivers have let us know that cars parked here make it difficult for them to make safe turns into and out of our lot. This street is a no parking zone street.
  • Please adhere to school zone regulations for phone usage and speed limits. School zone speed limit is 20 mph.
  • Please do not bring pets on school property during arrival and dismissal time.
  • Be kind to the crossing guard. She is here to help ensure a safe arrival for our students and parents.
