What's New at Walnut?
November 8, 2021
Upcoming School Holidays
CVUSD will be recognizing Veterans' Day this Thursday, 11/11/21. All schools will be closed. Schools will also be closed for a week-long Thanksgiving holiday from 11/22-11/26. Winter Break will take place between December 20-December 31. School reopens on Monday, January 3rd.
Community Giving Opportunity
Walnut is partnering with Action VC to provide gifts to local families through their Community Christmas Shoppe. If you would like to donate a new, unwrapped gift, please send it to school by Wednesday, December 8th. Gifts are being collected for children/youth ages 0-18. Suggested items include blocks, toys, books, arts & craft sets, games, gift cards, roller skates, and movie tickets. There is a collection box in the Walnut school office. The gifts are provided to local families, including some from Walnut, each year. If you are interested in volunteering, go to www.actionvc.org.
PTA Restaurant Fundraiser at Presto Pasta 11/10/21
Support Walnut PTA and get a yummy meal in the process by attending the Presto Pasta fundraiser on Wednesday, 11/10. The fundraiser will be running all day. Let them know you're from Walnut, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to Walnut PTA. Presto Pasta is located at 1025 Broadbeck Dr. in Newbury Park.
Attendance Information
If your child is absent, always contact the school office at (805) 498-3608. We have a 24-hour Attendance Line where you can leave a message if you are calling outside of school hours (extension 300). Teachers are busy with their classes in the mornings and may not have the chance to forward that information to the office. Please let us know the reason for your child's absence. If the child is sick, office personnel will help you navigate the steps needed for them to return. Days and requirements vary depending on the situation. Due to COVID regulations, we cannot allow students to return to class after an absence unless we know the reason. If your child is absent for a reason not related to illness, always let us know so that their return to class isn't delayed.
The morning bell rings at 8:13 a.m., and school begins at 8:15 a.m. Students are considered tardy after that point. Thank you for making every effort to have your child at school in plenty of time so they can start the day strong.

Walnut Elementary School
Walnut is a neighborhood school with a BIG heart, where every student is valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning. We believe in developing the whole child, so we invest in the visual and performing arts, technology, and physical fitness in addition to traditional academics. We were recently one of five schools in Ventura County named as a California Honor Roll School. We are committed to our mission statement, Academic Excellence for All in a Safe, Enriching Environment. Walnut has an active PTA, School Site Council, and English Language Advisory Council. Each of these groups of parents and community members would LOVE to have YOU join them in making sure Walnut provides the best possible learning environment for students and families. Please contact us if you'd like to know more. --Mrs. Wall, Principal
