A Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson
Dear Families,
We are very grateful that so many of you are willing to volunteer your time in and out of our school. The turn out for our PTO Ice Cream Social and Bookfair was outstanding, and we appreciate the support! Many of you have volunteered your time already to help in the lunchroom, and we are now looking for volunteers to help on our playgrounds after lunch. Your help supports us in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our students.
Here are a few expectations for lunchroom and recess volunteers:
- Arrive on time for your shift.
- Reinforce expected behaviors and redirect unexpected behaviors. If unexpected behaviors continue, please seek support from a staff member.
- Be respectful of all students and staff, setting a good example for our students.
- Follow the instruction from staff in the lunchroom and/or on the playground
Here are a few tasks that will help support us in the lunchroom and/or on the playground.
Lunchroom
Help students get their food in the lunch line.
Monitor students to ensure they are eating safely and following expected behaviors.
Clean up and prepare lunchroom for next grade level.
Recess
Monitor students to ensure they are playing safely and following expected behaviors.
Help students to resolve conflicts.
Encourage students to play together and have fun.
If you are interested in volunteering, please review the CCSD Volunteer Handbook, complete and return page 8 of the handbook, and then proceed to THIS LINK to sign up.
As always, thank you for everything you do to support your child's journey at Elizabeth Ide.

craft sticks (regular size and jumbo)
empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls
clothespins
pipe cleaners
toothpicks
pool noodles
cupcake liners
aluminum foil

Meet Jan Brett on her first national tour in four years. She will do a drawing demonstration related to Cozy followed by a book signing. In addition to photo opportunities with Jan's tour bus and Hedgie, Jan's favorite friend from The Mitten and The Hat, a hot chocolate bar and bookmark creation station will also be available.
Anderson’s Bookshops will be on-site during the event to sell copies of Jan’s books for signing; Jan will do her best to sign all books. If time does not permit this, then she will provide as many signed bookplates as necessary for all books. We do not guarantee that all pre-sold books will be signed; these titles may receive a signed bookplate.
Jan’s Tour Bus
Jan’s tour bus will be parked in front of the school at 4 p.m. It is wrapped in artwork from her books. Your family is welcome to take a photograph next to the bus.
Meet Hedgie
Hedgie, Jan’s favorite friend from The Mitten and The Hat, is visiting as well. Bring the kids to have a photo taken with Hedgie.
Artsonia
The Art Room has been busy with creativity!
As students complete their first projects in Art, we’d like to document and share our work with you by using a free digital portfolio called Artsonia. Artsonia is a way for your child to share their artwork with family online and create a digital Art portfolio of their masterpieces while at Elizabeth Ide and Prairieview Elementary Schools..
Artsonia will be managed by Ms. Smeltzer, (Art teacher), in a safe and educational manner. All we need is your permission to include your child’s artwork on our school’s web gallery on Artsonia. Students will learn the preparations and responsibilities involved in displaying their art and developing a digital portfolio for themselves, (Ms. Smeltzer photographs Kindergarten’s artwork).
If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact Ms. Smeltzer at tsmeltzer@ccsd66.org.
Nurses Corner
Kindergarten parents this is a friendly reminder to please turn in any missing medical forms (ie school physical, dental & eye) to the health office as soon as possible.
The school physical with complete immunization record is required for the kindergarten registration, and your children are considered as non-compliant with health requirements without one on file. Please make the appointment to get the school physical as soon as possible, or share a copy of the physical with us if it has already been done. Please note that the State's due date for the required school physical is October 15th. Students who are not compliant with this requirement are subject to exclusion on or after October 15th. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Technology Support
If you or your child needs help with any CCSD66 related technology (iPads, Chromebooks, CCSD66 email etc) please use this link: CCSD66 Remote Tech Support Request to submit a request, and a member of the technology department will get in contact with you ASAP. All requests are handled in the order that they are received.
Upcoming Events at Elizabeth Ide Elementary School
PTO Message
It is that SPOOKTACULAR time of year! IDE & Prairieview PTO’s are teaming up again for a hauntingly good time at our TRUNK or TREAT!
When: Friday, 10/20
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Where: Prairieview Parking Lot
*NEW THIS YEAR - PUNCH CARDS - Each Trunk or Treater will have a punch card. When a child visits a trunk, the trunk will punch their card and then give them their treat. At the end of the line, each child can enter their punch card in a raffle for a chance for a prize. We hope this method prevents children from visiting trunks multiple times for treats and that we will have enough candy/prizes for everyone.
