An Invitation from the PBIS Committee
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. PBIS schools across Wisconsin have created a more positive environment for students and staff by establishing clear expectations for their students and taking active steps in teaching, modeling and reinforcing appropriate behaviors school wide. Rose Glen has a PBIS committee and we have an opportunity to add an adult family member or two to our Rose Glen PBIS committee.
Do you think you might be interested? Here are a few details:
You would need to attend monthly meetings. Our meetings are held on Tuesday mornings from 7:40 - 8:20 a.m.
The meeting dates for the remainder of this school year are:
February 27
March 27
April 24
May 22
Other important qualities that are needed include a desire to help create a positive school culture that supports all learners and families in our Rose Glen community and a willingness to share your ideas. Out of respect to our students and their families, it is of utmost importance that all representatives who are part of the PBIS team also possess an ability to keep confidentiality.
If you are interested, please fill out the Google form by January 15. Once the responses have been received, we will be in further contact. Thank you!

Flu Information
Dear Parent or Guardian,
As you may be aware, there has been a significant increase in the number of flu cases reported in the community. Please review the attached fact sheet on influenza for information regarding symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
If your child has a fever of 100.0 or greater, please keep your child home from school. If
the fever goes down after receiving fever- reducing medication such as Motrin or Tylenol, the child should still not come to school. The student must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications, prior to returning to school.
We ask that you please report influenza like illness to the school office promptly.
Thank you for your cooperation with this matter as we try ensure the health and well-being of everyone in our school community.
Sincerely,
The District Nursing Staff
Wendy Lang, RN BSN Liza Davis, RN BSN Karen Stoeckl, RN BSN

Hot Lunch Alert!
Just a reminder to check your child's lunch account frequently. We currently have a large amount of students who have negative lunch account balances! Students can eat one day on credit and then they receive a cheese sandwich for $1.50 which just adds to their already negative account balance.
There are two ways to add money to your child's lunch account:
1. Send cash or check payable to the "School District of Waukesha" in an envelope marked LUNCH MONEY along with your child to school. Please write your child's name and teacher code on the front of the envelope to make processing more efficient.
You may write one check for multiple students, just include all names on the envelope with instructions of how the money enclosed should be divided among the children.
2. Pay by credit or debit card. Go to: https://campus.waukesha.k12.wi.us/campus/portal/waukesha.jsp, login to your Infinite campusaccount and click on online Webstore and payments (bottom left side.)
Click on Student Fee and Lunch Payments. Follow the prompts from there. There isn't a fee for this service.
You can also view what your child is eating for lunch and pay any past due school fees.
Walkers' Circle: Pick-Up
Thank you to all of you who have helped to make morning drop-off a safer time of day for our kids! It seems to be running really smooth and we so appreciate your willingness to work with us to create the safest environment possible for our kids. Additionally, thanks to the majority of you who followed our morning procedures for the front parking lot this week. It was very cold this week and the majority of you took the time to park and walk your kids safely to the front of the building. This really was helpful in keeping the front lot safe as well.
In December it was foreshadowed that we would be adjusting the afternoon pick-up procedure. A lot of thought and time has been put into determining what would make this the safest procedure possible. The focus of the revision has been on what will make the procedure the safest. The revised procedure will take a few extra minutes and will take all following the procedure to ensure that it is effective and as efficient as possible. The revised procedure also focuses on clearing up the jams that occur in Walkers' Circle. If we can clear up the jams, then our efficiency might increase. This will also increase the safety of the circle so that kids are not running through cars to get to cars in the left lane. We will also be meeting with students to review the revised procedures so that they are aware of what to expect starting next week.
We will pilot this procedure for the next week or so and communicate any adjustments that might be needed. Your patience is appreciated as we look to create the safest dismissal possible for our kids and families.

Inclement Weather Guidelines
The SDW's standard for closing when cold is a Wind Chill Warning, which is -35. The standard for closing for snow or ice is a Winter Storm Warning. When we anticipate bad weather that does not cause us to close schools, we will communicate the following:
1. Doors will be open early so students can come directly into the building.
2. Dropping students off a bit later than school start is a secondary option for parents, as opposed to keeping students home all day. Better late than not at all.
3. When weather is severe, we have allowed parents the option to keep students at home without academic penalty. However, we would prefer to have the students in school, even if it means arriving late.
The decision to close schools must be made prior to 5:00 am on any given day. Any later than this impacts buses, media notices, employees driving to school and students coming to schools. The general rule is anything less than a "Winter Storm Warning" or "Wind Chill Warning" (-35 degrees) we do not close. Although some parents may not agree with these benchmarks, we do offer some flexibility as noted above.
Over the last decade--maybe longer--we have consistently used a "Winter Storm Warning" or a "Wind Chill Warning" as the determining factor of when to close schools.
The district's rule is that any parents who feels it is unsafe to bring their children to school in inclement weather can keep them home without academic penalty. They can also pick up earlier without academic penalty as well. Missed school work must be completed. However, the actual weather or the forecast must support that decision.
These morning decisions are always very hard. The weather forecast at 4:30 a.m. may not all all be the same as the actual weather at 7:30 am. One major factor in the decision process: We do not have the ability for an early release should the heavy snow decide to come after we are in session. Finding enough bus drivers prior to normal route times and the potential hazard of sending young children to locked homes always creates concern.
Notifications of School Closings
School Closing and Emergency Closing:
If school needs to close because of inclement weather or for another reason there are a few communications that you should expect. You should receive a phone blast from the district if the school district is closed. You should also receive an email alerting you that school is closed as well. Once the decision is made to close school then it will also be posted on the district website. You can also check if school is closed by checking the following media stations and websites.
TV Station Website Radio Station
WISN - 12 www.wisn. com/weather/closings WKLH 96.5, WHQG 102.9,
WJMR 98.3, WNRG 106.9
WTMJ - 4 www.tmj4.com/closing LAKE FM 94.5, WTMJ 620 AM
WITI - 6 fox6now.com/weather/closings AM 920, OLDIES 95.7,
FM 106.1, WISN 1130
CBS - 58 www.cbs58.com/weather
In the highly unlikely event that school closes during the day, please make sure that your child knows where they should go if school needed to close. A phone blast and/or email will be sent to alert you that school is closing early. Please refer to the above stations for the predicted dismissal time and additional information. We request that you not call school if at all possible during this time. The focus will be on students knowing where they should go and preparing for an early and safe dismissal. If there are questions we will contact you and determine what steps need to be taken.
