Welcome Back!

Hello Prairie Point Staff! I can't believe I'm writing this already! I keep asking myself "Where did summer go?" BUT, I'm super excited to be starting a new school year! Welcome back!!! This newsletter will be the place for Jen and I to share all staff-related information over the course of the school year.

In this first Issue of the year, we have included some important information for you as you begin planning for your return to school.

A Message to All at Prairie Point: The Time to Be Awesome is NOW

The theme for students this year is "Heroes: The time to be awesome is NOW." I used Animoto to create this video for our students coming back this year. I hope you like it!

In the video, I asked students to think about their superpower for a reason. I've purchased a blank cape for every student. I would like to ask that you allow some time on the first day of school for them to decorate their cape with their name and superpower. You will each receive a set of white vinyl capes and marker sets. You don't need to allow a lot of time, but it would be nice for each kid to have a personalized cape. The capes need 24 hours to dry once completed. I appreciate you indulging me on this one!

And there's a cape available for all staff, too, if you want to make one.

News & Info

Building Information

You are officially able to get into the building to work in your classrooms on Monday, August 3rd. During this time, you may get your keys and job from the office. Please note, our summer office hours are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

When you are working in your classrooms, please recognize that the custodians still have several projects to complete prior to the start of school. If you need help with something, please send an email to Steve. Also, please make sure to bring any garbage downstairs to the dumpster in the hallway by the boiler room. If you have boxes, please break them down and put them on the cart next to the dumpster. Please do not leave garbage or boxes outside of your classroom.

Please check your mailbox regularly. Mail is starting to arrive, and several of your boxes are full already. Also, mailboxes were shifted, so double check in case yours has moved.

Save the Date: Preview Night!

Preview Night is Thursday, August 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Home and School will be providing dinner for you in the staff lounge beginning at 3:45 p.m. We're using a similar format as in years' past - Grades K & 1 will greet their students in the Community Room; 2nd through 5th will be in the Gym. Classroom lights will be on, but doors will remain locked.

Class Lists

Class lists will be in your mailbox on Tuesday, August 11th, and will be available to the parents online at 4:00 p.m. Thank you to everyone who has come in to check groupings one more time. Please note: Many changes are still being made every day. Please do not plan on anything being finalized until students arrive. We also have new students enroll through the first week of school.

Staff News

We've had some staff changes since school ended in May.

Emily Adelson has taken a job closer to home. Tena Brazen is our new psychologist.

Jen is also in the process of hiring some new teaching assistants.

Tech Talk

This year's back to school video was made with Animoto. (www.animoto.com) Free accounts are available for teachers, and this is a great tool for student presentations. Please let me know if you would like more information.

If you're interested in a planbook.com account for the 2015-2016 school year, please let me know by Friday, August 7th.
