Progress Report and Grading Policy
Kareen Baca, Associate Superintendent of Educational Services, shared progress report data in the Fall Second Progress Report Update. The Board of Trustees directed staff to implement the Pandemic Grading Policy of A, B, C, Pass, or No Mark. Students who receive a No Mark will have to take the course again if it is required for graduation, but it will not impact the student's GPA. Further, a pass mark does not fulfill the A-G requirements at UC / CSU. This decision was made in an effort to support our students as we continue operating in Distance Learning during this pandemic.
Return-to-School Discussion
The Board of Trustees adopted the Return to School Plan for small groups of students during the Spring Semester. The plan was presented by Associate Superintendent Kareen Baca. The California Interscholastic Foundation (CIF), which is the state governing body for high school athletics, announced that it has placed all start dates for competition and full practices “on hold” as it waits for state health officials to issue updated guidelines for schools to follow during the coronavirus pandemic. The Board of Trustees will take this into consideration when determining when to resume athletics. The CIF website, located here, provides updated information.
COVID-19 Testing Available
Free, painless COVID-19 testing is available. The numbers of positive COVID-19 cases and deaths in San Mateo County continue to rise. Please consider being tested, even if you do not have any symptoms. Learn more here: https://www.juhsd.net/Page/1794.
Lost Email and Calendars
IIT Director Jacob Meyer presented an update to the Board of Trustees after a server hardware issue caused many JUHSD staff to temporarily lose access to emails and calendar appointments. You can hear about the incident by viewing Jake Meyer's report to the Board. The server was restored as much as possible, with our IT department working tirelessly both internally and with outside experts to attempt to restore the server. The incident has expedited district plans to move to Gmail. This will not change email addresses for any district staff.
Please note, if you have sent an email and not received a response, please send a polite reminder.
