Principal's Message

Dear Slaybaugh Families,

It is hard to believe, that five (5) days from today the school year is over! Once again, I say, “THANK YOU”! To every parent, teacher, support staff, custodian, bus driver and student, thank you for your patience, flexibility and support this entire year. The pandemic made us think outside the box on procedures, routines and many aspects of every day life.

The students and teachers had a great week and enjoyed several fun activities for which I have included pictures.

Please be aware that our last three days - Monday - Wednesday, June 14 -16th are abbreviated days. Student dismissal each day is 2:00 pm.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Joe Marinelli

Principal

The Third Grade "Slaybaugh Singers" performed in an elementary choral concert on Thursday evening at the Fernwood Auditorium and they were absolutely fantastic! Congratulations to the "Slaybaugh Singers" and their director, Ms. Moore, on a job well done!

The Best Part of Me

Mrs. Russnak and Ms. Delasotta's Third Class read the book The Best Part of Me by photographer Wendy Ewald. Ms. Ewald asked several children "What is the best part of you?", and the book presents their answers along with black-and-white photographs that were taken by the author. Mrs. Russnak and Ms. Delasotta's class recreated this project themselves with each student choosing their favorite part of themselves and doing a writing piece to go along with their own black and white photo. Great job, Third Graders! It is never a bad idea to take time to appreciate what is different and special about each of us.

Climate and Culture

Congratulations to Slaybaugh's Retirees!

On Tuesday, at Slaybaugh's first in-person faculty meeting of the year (outside), we had the opportunity to honor the school's two retirees for the year, Mrs. Michele McGinnis and Mrs. Robin Caplan. Mrs. McGinnis has served the EHT School District as a Third Grade Special Education Teacher for the past 14 years. When Mrs. McGinnis' students were asked to describe her they said she is, "friendly, fancy, and funny!" Mrs. McGinnis is those things and so much more. She is well loved by her students, their parents, and coworkers alike and she is truly going to be missed. Mrs. Caplan has served the district as a paraprofessional working in both the self-contained and in-class support settings. Mrs. Caplan's kind heart has made her the perfect fit for her job, as she is not only caring and compassionate, but patient and nurturing as well. Mrs. Caplan has been an amazing member of the Slaybaugh family and she will be very missed as well. Best wishes to both of our retirees as their time becomes their own!

The students of Slaybaugh had a very special visitor on Thursday, the Transformer Optimus Prime! They listened to an anti-bullying assembly and learned to always stand up for what is right. Thank you very much to the Parents' Club and Renaissance for sponsoring this exciting event!
