Reminders from our TSP Advisor-Juan Carrillo
Hello Malabar, this week we continue our budget development process during our Monday ELAC meeting. We will focus on the strategies that will best help us reach our goals within the SPSA plan. We will continue this work with staff as well during our faculty meeting on Tuesday.
Also, we will begin early ELPAC testing with several of our English Learners. This group of students have been identified as having a strong possibility of reclassifying and need to get an ELPAC score before June. I will be testing this group through the week. The rest of our English Learners will be tested once we have trained all staff in March.
Have a great week and happy Valentines Day!
Updates from our Title III Coach-Ricardo Melendez
ELPAC is Upon Us!
Our English Learners will have the opportunity to show how much English they have learned as measured by this year’s summative ELPAC. Please ensure that you are providing multiple supported opportunities in ELPAC like tasks in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies…. Check our Schoology group and Google Drive for ELD and ELPAC resources.
EL DATA
23 English Learners (15%) passed MOY DIBELS 8 with BM or ABM in all subareas whereas 126 students (85%) did not pass all areas with Benchmark or Above Benchmark.
In grades 2nd -5th Grade we have 101 EL’s. Out of those 101 students, 60 (59 %%) EL’s scored Well Below Benchmark (WBBM) on the MAZE section of the DIBELS assessment. 12 (11.8%) students scored Below Benchmark on the 2021-2022 DIBELS 8 MOY MAZE.

For our Reclassification Typologies, we have students in the following profiles:
Profile C= 1 (.69%) Profile D= 2 (1.38%) Profile E = 8 (5.52%) Profile F= 7 (4.83%)
Profile G= 15 (10.34%) Profile H= 101 (69.66)
Food For Thought
How did your Designated Frame of Practice lesson go?
If you haven’t taught this lesson, what are the barriers that are preventing you from doing so?
Do not hesitate to share your thoughts with me.
2021-2022 SPSA Measurable Goal
By June 2022, English Learners scoring proficient (Overall Level 4) on ELPAC will increase from 7% to 30% as measured by the Summative ELPAC assessment.

SSPT
Student Support and Progress Team
SSPT continues to move forward every Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 2:30pm. This is a tedious task which involves hard work from all the case managers. Malabar’s SSPT committee consists of many out of classroom support. The day of the student’s SSPT, the teacher is ultimately the most important key player. Thank you Malabar teachers for supporting the SSPT Process. We have had so many setbacks in the Calendar Schedule due to many reasons such as parent/teacher conferences, COVID, and even Blackouts. We appreciate your patience in waiting for your case to be reviewed.
By this time in the school year you should have a good idea of your student’s progress and needs. The last day to submit a SSPT Request is Friday, March 25th. PLEASE REMEMBER TO NOTIFY ME OF YOUR REFERRAL!!! Unless I am notified, the student’s SSPT request may fall through the cracks.
The SSPT Committee is here to support and help all student’s and teacher’s. We appreciate all your hard work and dedication!
Updates from our Intervention Teacher-Vanessa Chavez
Hello Teacher,
Thank you all for your participation on Tuesday with Analyzing MOY Data. Now that you have regrouped your students, what will your small group instruction look like? On Monday after school, I will be hosting a zoom session for those needing time to plan their small group lessons. I will use 30 min. to go over Read Works and Benchmark that you can use for certain groups. The other 30 min. will be used for planning/ questions. Call or come see me in Rm 6 if you have any questions.

STEAM Instructional Coach-Angela Muro
Hello Malabar teachers,
Last week you may have noticed that Craig Sipes, LDE STEAM Coordinator, was here along with Erica Lee, LDE STEAM Coach. We walked through some classrooms to get a feel for how we are doing as a STEAM Certified School. I am glad to say that most classrooms (8 of 9) had evidence of STEAM instruction being implemented frequently. Many of you are aligning your STEAM boards to the Progress Builds in the Amp Sci TE’s. If you have not already done so, I suggest that you read the Progress Build for the current Amp Sci Unit that you are teaching. Here is a brief explanation from an Amp Sci TE:
“A Progress Build describes the way in which students’ explanations of the central phenomena should develop and deepen over the course of a unit. It is an important tool in understanding the design of the unit and in supporting students’ learning. A Progress Build organizes the sequence of instruction, defines the focus of the assessments, and grounds inferences about students’ understanding of the content, specifically at each of the Critical Juncture Assessments found throughout the unit. A Critical Juncture Assessment guides the instruction designed to address specific gaps in students’ understanding.”
I would also like to share with you a link to a video to a “Navigation Walkthrough” just in case you are like me and still get confused with all of the components

Focus on Classroom Observations-Standard 3: Delivery of Instruction
As we visit classrooms, we will be focusing on the following two elements:
3b2. Discussion Techniques and Student Participation Techniques are used to ensure that all students share their thinking around challenging questions
Effective Practice: Teacher uses intentional, differentiated strategies to engage all students in discussion, attempting gradual release from teacher-directed to student initiated conversation. Students participate in intellectually challenging discussions.
3c1. Standards-Based Projects, Activities and Assignments Standards-aligned learning activities cognitively engage students in the lesson
Effective Practice: Instructional projects, activities and assignments are aligned to the instructional standards, require higher levels of thinking, are culturally relevant, and may include real-world application. Most students are cognitively engaged, constructing their own understanding and exploring content. The learning activities are differentiated, as necessary, to meet the learning needs of student subgroups.
I will begin visiting classrooms to observe math instruction this week. I look forward to observing the following math instructional expectations:
Mathematics
Every lesson will be taught in 3 parts that will include opportunities for discussion and journal writing.
Align IAB’s/ Edulastic with pacing plan to analyze data and plan for instruction.
Use anchor charts to prioritize and ground student learning.
Math projects to analyze student thinking/critical thinking.
These expectations should be visible during the observation. I should see the math lesson conducted in three parts with various opportunities for students to discuss and process their learning. I should see the use of a journal where students write what they have learned or what they are learning. I should see anchor charts posted around the classroom as a resource for students.
Please see me if you have any questions regarding these expectations.
