Woodcrest is filled with pride and gratitude
Greetings Woodcrest families,
I hope this letter finds you and yours doing well. We started this week with the end to daylight savings time. It is a reminder that we are only a few weeks away from the Thanksgiving break. When we return from break, we are only a few days away from the start of the second trimester. I am very proud of the work we have ALL done in this first trimester.
My pride is anchored in recognizing that the success I witness here at school is rooted in the partnerships that exist between our staff and our families. Looking back on the successes highlighted during conferences last month, I know that existing relationships were strengthened, and new relationships were created. These relationships, and strong partnership between home and school, will lead to further student success and a strong end of the trimester.
Tomorrow, November 11, is Veterans Day, a national day of recognition for all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. As the child of a veteran, I know this day can bring up different thoughts and feelings for veterans and their loved ones. I want to express my gratitude to all of those who have served our nation in this way.
There are many ways to serve. We have a team of fourth graders who are serving our Woodcrest community. We work diligently to ensure that students have a positive experience with their learning technology – even and especially – while devices are updated and or replaced. A team of fourth graders were trained to help update iPads for our younger students. It was so much fun to listen to the conversations they have had about how to refine the process and how much they enjoy being helpful to other students. Because of their work, second grade teacher, Diana Fasanaro, presented each student with a medal to recognize them as “School Leaders.” I have included a photo of the moment.
On that happy note, I hope you and your family enjoy the predicted change in weather and stay warm and dry.
Con gratitúd,
John Franke

Quick Cups!
All Kindergarten students played "QUICK CUPS" with Mrs. Nguyen this week in a small group. Kids learn best through games and fun. This game is fun, challenging and teaches amazing skills such as: visual discrimination, spatial relations, self-control, eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, social interaction skills, executive processing skills, speed, process skills, sequencing, and good sportsmanship. All meaningful interaction through play inspires growth.
