Guided Reading has begun and students have been reading independently.
Students can already identify a pattern, point to words in the text, and determine the change in a pattern by using the first letter and the picture.
For example, if the book reads as such:
Froggy likes to eat bugs on his pancakes.
Froggy likes to eat bugs on his salad.
Froggy likes to eat bugs on his bread.
The pattern is "Froggy likes to eat bugs on his _____." Students learn to use the picture and the beginning sound to determine the changing word.
Students can also answer questions about a text. They know to find evidence in their book to support their answers.
EX: "How did you know Froggy is hungry?---I know Froggy is hungry because in this picture he is licking his lips, and his eyes are staring at the bugs. I also know because the title of the book is Frog Food."

Spanish
¡Hola Familias de KA!
I am very excited to share that KA is doing a maravilloso job in Spanish. They are embracing the process of immersion with open arms. In the past few weeks we have been learning about our emotions: feliz, triste, cansado, enojado, and enfermo. We are having a lot of fun acting these emotions with our faces and bodies and well as using our loud and proud voices to name the emotions. We are also learning about the calendario and the days of the week in Spanish; lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado and domingo. Furthermore we are practicing how to count using the numbers on the calendar. KA is always looking forward to learn and give their happy brains more and more Español!
Gracias

Dot Day at BPCS for Kindergarten!
Kinder Artists are busy prepping for our November 9th Dot Day Celebration! In class we read The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The story gives artists young and old permission to express their unique selves in ART! Additionally, Yayoi Kusama has two shows opening in NY in November. Hopefully many of you will bring your K artists to see her work in person.
In preparation for our celebration, KA has been experimenting in the studio — making art with everyday materials, bottle caps, bingo markers, coffee filters (next week), etc. Please look for our creations on the 8th floor. We’ll keep you posted with our party plans! : )
Many Thanks,
Ms. Drew and Ms. Walsh
Kindergarten Community Helpers
In our IB unity Kindergarten has been learning about different types of community helpers. We have explored different roles that are important to keep our community safe, healthy and happy; doctors, police officers, Firefighters, construction workers, plumbers, farmers, chefs, bakers, vets, dentists etc. We are excited to invite community helpers into the classroom to share about their roles in our community! Feel free to bring in materials related to your job and/or send up pictures so that we can project it on the white board.
If you or someone you know would like to come into KA and KB (15 minutes in each classroom) to share their experience with us please see the slots below to sign up!
