PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Bulldog Families,
Wow, what an interesting weather world we have been living in for the past several weeks! Although the inclement weather has caused some extra work with rearranging schedules at home and at school, it has also created an opportunity for all kinds of learning. We are witnessing so much science at work:
- What is happening to the giant pile of snow in the parking lot as the weather is changing? Why was steam coming off it one day?
- Why was the front door at school all “foggy” this morning? Why did my glasses fog up when I walked into the building?
- What do the animals do when it gets REALLY cold?
- What was the temperature range the week of January 28th? What was the difference in temperatures between January 30th and February 5th?
With our inclement weather, we had several eLearning days in a row. Please be sure to communicate with your student’s teacher if you have any questions regarding our eLearning activities. The assignment deadlines are one week from the day that was missed.
Our HSE School Foundation is hosting our annual Game Day Fundraiser on Friday, February 22nd. Proceeds from Game Day support innovative science, engineering, technology and math (STEM); literacy; mental health and wellness initiatives across all grade levels within HSE Schools. Our students have directly benefitted from foundation grants and in these areas. Thanks to all of you, the New Britton PTO has sponsored the attendance of a team from NBE. Mrs. Sanders, our 2018 Teacher of the Year, and her husband will attend as well as two other teachers, Mr. Gorrill, and me. Please join us if for a night of purposeful FUN if you are able!
The Student Council is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, February 12th from 4:00-8:00 (more information below). Please consider “Being There” for others by donating blood! I would like to thank Mrs. Buening and our Student Council for this great opportunity to serve others.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
THANK YOU!
Over the past few weeks, New Britton students have enjoyed a wide variety of After School Enrichment classes. From learning about German culture, to making homemade ice cream and even breaking boards with Taekwondo, our Bulldog students were engaged and learning and growing and having lots of fun!
A BIG THANK YOU to Jill and Clint Cloys - official ASE Parent ROCK STARS! Thank you for the great classes, organized process and smooth scheduling - even with a 3 day weather delay! Thanks also to Lisa Chaney and Leslie Zeisig for helping confirm class list and correct dismissal arrangements. A giant thank you to the adult volunteers for sharing their time and talents with our Bulldogs and for their flexibility in rescheduling due to the weather delays.
Please consider volunteering to be a part of ASE next year. We are always looking for new classes to add to our offerings. Be on the look out for more information next Fall.

Marker Recycling
Do you have markers that are worn out?
Would you like to help the environment and repurpose the markers instead of throwing them away?
You can help by bringing your worn out markers (regular, dry erase, even highlighters) to the art room and placing them in the Crayola ColorCycle container. This wonderful program offers an opportunity to
- Rid your home of all the used up markers hiding in junk drawers and old backpacks
- Teach students about the opportunity to repurpose everyday items
- Encourage families to consider ways we can explore other eco-friendly practices
Thank you Mrs. Smith for helping New Britton continue on our path to be an Eco-Cool School!

Car Riders
The easiest and most efficient way for your children to get to and from school is the district provided transportation. Our busing system is set in place to transport all NBE students safely and efficiently.
If your student needs to be a car rider more than occasionally and you have not yet received a car tag, please email Michelle at mayres@hse.k12.in.us with your name, your student's name and your 4 digit FastLane number to get your car tag. Please hang the car tag from your rear view mirror each day to help expedite the pick up process.
Thank you to all families that have been consistently using the car tags for pick up. It seems to have helped speed up the entire process!

The PTO would love your help in the Media Center. A volunteer is needed each morning from 9-10 and another sometime in the afternoon. Volunteers check in books and shelve them. Check out this signup for available slots! http://signup.com/go/XpHWqZZ
