Masterman Accolades
MATHCOUNTS
Masterman MathCounts team won the Philadelphia MathCounts competition at Temple University. All 10 of our 7th and 8th graders placed in the top 21 of the 77 participants, with the following students making the Countdown Round and finishing in the top 10:
Lucas Jaeger, 3rd place
Jack Hourigan, 4th place
Caroline Ho, 7th place
Ji Wang, 10th place
In addition, four students worked together in the Team Round and got all 10 questions correct; the first time any team has done this in the 9 years Mr. Taranta has coached MathCounts!
MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS
The middle school robotics won an award for most innovative robot in their first robotics competition in which they became finalists. They progress to the State competition on March 12th.
HIGH SCHOOL MATH TEAM
The high school math team is among the top 25 (13th place ) in the state in the PA Math League competition series. There are over 180 teams competing. Rei Chiu (junior) is tied for first in the state with a perfect score after 5 competitions.
SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARDS
Congratulations to Noah Bradley (8th Grade), Catherine Liu (9th Grade), and Shira Moolten (11th grade)
for being honored by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Noah won a silver key, Catherine two gold keys, and Shira won 3 Silver Keys in addition to Honorable Mention.
ASAP SCHOOL SCRABBLE WINTER CLASSIC
Congrats to lots of trophies for our scrabble players.
Isaac Finn and Jalen Peterson: Best game, 7-8th grade; and best word,
7-8th grade division.
Lucas Jaeger: Best game, competitive division; and best overall score,
competitive division
Rafi Mills: Second place overall score, competitive division (and his
picture in the Metro)
Ezra Dugosh: Best word, competitive division
Jennifer Juwonu and Michelle Ong had "Best winter related word, competitive
division"
Sports News
The Boys' Basketball team defeated Dobbins High School last week and now moves on to the State playoffs in March. Location to be determined.
Facilities
WATER FILTRATION SYSTEMS
We have already ordered two water filtration systems to replace two fountains at Masterman. One filtration system will be located on the fourth floor near the cafeteria. The second system's location will be determined.
The Arts
Thirty seven (37) High School students and 64 Middle School students made All-City band, orchestra, choir and jazz band this year, including several students winning Principal chairs in their ensembles. We also had several students make PMEA District and Regional Ensembles.
