2016 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl was a huge success!!

More than 40 schools participated in 2016 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. The reading bowl was a huge success and plans are being made to accomodate even more growth for next year's reading bowl. It was fantastic to see students, media specialists, teachers and volunteers super excited about reading and super energized on a crisp Saturday morning.

All district winners will compete at the Regional HRRB on February 13, 2016 at Clayton State University from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. The Division A Playoffs will be held on February 27, 2016, the location has not yet been determined. If you are able to attend and support the following teams, please do so.

Celebrate Black History Month!

Have you thought about hosting an African American Read In? The following link can help you plan and find great resources to host this event at your school this February. Black History can be celebrated year round, but participating in the focused celebrations throughout February is a great way to celebrate the BEST of African American history and culture. Get your community involved and join the fun!!

  • Receiving all items by 3/1/16 is unlikely due to the extremely high volume of last minute orders
  • If you do not receive items ordered request a pro forma invoice and pay by 3/1/16
  • P-Cards will be deactivated on Tuesday 3/2/16


  • Media Specialists with unpaid FY 16 invoices after 3/1 will need to pay them in FY 17 Aug./Sept. 2016

The mission of the Atlanta Public Schools library media program is to make certain that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is achieved by empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skilled researchers, and ethical users of information.
