SHISD Mid-Week Message
Promoting Great Things in a Great School District
The First Week of School
Welcome Back! The first week of school has been amazing as we had the highest enrollment ever in Spring Hill ISD. We have 1894 students in our schools as of today! Up from 1802 at the beginning of last year. The week ended with a packed gym and a great community pep rally to kick off the fall.
The beginning of school takes a lot of hard work by a lot of people to make sure the start of school runs smoothly. Our four principals Mr. Lind, Mr. Moore, Mrs. Doron, and Mrs. Mayfield have done a tremendous job planning and preparing for the start of the school year. Please take a minute to read the kudos below that I have received about the great staff that helped make the start of 2015-16 the best year ever in Panther Nation!
- Cathy Reed has done an amazing job getting our new staff's paperwork ready so that they officially can begin work on the first day. - ss
- Stephanie Pleasant. Thank you for making a great first impression to everyone who enters the admin building. -ss
- Laura Jordan for the work that she does in keeping our website up-to-date for the required business office postings. In the past month alone, she has posted the utility costs schedule, the proposed 15-16 expenditure budget, the approved teacher pay scale, the June check registers, the July check registers, the approved 15-16 budget, the approved ordinance to set the tax rate, and the payroll information. She is a pleasure to work with and she gets the items posted quickly even when she is not in district. Laura consistently provides exceptional support to us for the website data. – Barbara Shubert
- Just wanted to send kudos out to Amanda Chism and Amy Mayhew. They did a great job handling the first week of registration without me, and have been a tremendous help to me in my first few weeks at Spring Hill!! I am excited to work with such a caring and competent duo of nurses!-Jayme Powers-Walton
- Laura Jordan- She's not on my campus, but she's a huge part to my website being up to date. I send her information for my page and within the hour she posts it! My kudos from last week can mostly be attributed to Laura's amazing speed and dedication to keeping the Intermediate site current! Thanks a million Laura!! – Amy Doron
- Chenena Martin - She was promoted to PEIMS coordinator in December 2014 and her experience at the campus level has allowed her to be very effective in assisting the new campus secretaries at both primary and intermediate. – Barbara Shubert
- Campus Principals - Completion of the campus master schedules with the related Staff FTE Reports available by July 29 allowed the HR, Payroll and Budget functions to move through the budget process with regard to the staff coding based on students served and program intent codes much earlier than previous years. – Barbara Shubert
- Edie Benton - She was hired in March 2015 and her knowledge of Skyward employee management and salary negotiations with regard to budgeting has allowed us to get the line item detail budgets out to campuses/departments much earlier this year. – Barbara Shubert
- My child started High School this year and I just want to say that the office at the high school has been so incredibly nice. Mr. Lind is helpful and the kids seem to really like him. He says "open door policy" and so far, it has been. Being a parent, this gives me a great feeling of relief. Cheryl Lentz and Jeanie McLemore have been so pleasant, patient and kind and have answered all of my questions in a "can I help you more" voice. I feel so welcomed to be there and when I walk in and they always greet me with a "sincere" smile. This campus sets a great example! – Michelle Smith
- I would like to give Kudo's to the high school office staff. The beginning of the year is always busy, but they handled it smoothly, and efficiently with no problems. Jeanie McLemore and Cheryl Lentz with registration and paper work. Sandra Baskin getting schedules out, and Paige Childers and Allison Bowles getting all those kids scheduled and in the right classes. – Terry Waldrep
- I am very excited about the Fundamental 5, I think it is going to give our teachers a plan, some support, and direction on improving their instruction. I think the atmosphere we set as one of support, and encouragement is going to help us work together to improve student performance. – Terry Waldrep
- Mr. Snell - Thanks for your leadership and encouragement, we are going to have a great year. – Terry Waldrep
- The Intermediate school could not have run as smoothly as it did without Amy Doron's clear communication. Amy uses a variety of communication methods so that the staff, students and parents are well informed. Everyone understood her expectations and if they did not, they felt comfortable asking for clarification. Amy is a positive role model in how we all should communicate with our parents. - Natalie Mercer
- Taylor Clark, our campus counselor, has done an outstanding job working with students and their parents on scheduling conflicts or necessary changes. She has worked hard at building strong relationships with these families and establishing a strong foundation for a successful year. Kudos to Mrs. Clark. – Mike Moore
- Mr. Lynch, our new Jr. High assistant principal, has jumped in with both feet doing a great job at facilitating student transition times and managing student drop-off and pick-up. - Mike Moore
- Natalie Mercer- Natalie was "on duty" everywhere. She was at drop off, lunch, recess buses and pick-ups helping students, parents and teachers to find their correct place in all these areas. Natalie has a knack for seeing what needs to be done and taking care of it!
- Odette Alexander- Odette was in the foyer hall way greeting each parent and student as they arrived with a master list of teachers. This helped families that were not able to attend Meet the Teacher. I heard several comments from parents that this was very helpful for their first visit to the intermediate.
- Kim Campbell- Every new student that showed up to school yesterday was enrolled in a quick and timely fashion. This was due to her prior preparation of paperwork and her working knowledge of the Skyward system. Kim has survived her first official "start of school" as the PEIMS clerk and I could not have done it without her. – Amy Doron
- Amy Long- Amy always answers phones with a helpful spirit and masterfully handled the large number of transportation changes we encountered each day. All students were accounted for and sent home safely thanks to Amy's attention to detail when answering each parents' request for pick-up changes. We proudly had zero transportation mishaps!! – Amy Doron
- Lisa Fox- Lisa wears many hats in our office, but yesterday she was the tour guide and pick-up guru! When new families arrived Lisa made certain that all their questions were answered and she escorted them to their new classrooms. Lisa is always a friendly person that parents seem to feel very comfortable with. This is so important when they are leaving their children with us! Also, Lisa is key to having pick-ups move smoothly! Despite my need to check the license of each parent on the first day...Lisa, (rain or shine) mans the pick-up line and helps us to keep it flowing in a safe manner. Lisa also conveniently seems to know everyone which helps us double check that students are riding home with the correct parent/guardian, etc! Because she helps Amy with transportation changes also, it's so nice to have her on the front lines helping to get kiddos in cars! – Amy Doron
- Jeannie McLemore for organizing the student registration packets. –Denny Lind
- Sandra Baskin for working countless hours on master schedule and printing final schedules. –Denny Lind
- Allison Bowles and Paige Childers for leveling classes and filling in the holes on schedules. –Denny Lind

- All Teachers that helped pass out schedules and directed students to their classes. –Denny Lind

- Ms. Cheryl Lentz on the positive atmosphere as you walk into the office-plus our bulletin board of welcoming our students back to school! –Denny Lind
- Wanted to give a huge shout out to 5th grades Mrs. Edney, Cobb & Vivion. They have worked to make sure that my son has had a successful start to his year... They have contacted me to ask for suggestions on how to handle situations and ask if I have any ideas on how to complete task and work with him. I can tell you that this year I feel like it really is going to be a true partnership which will only make him as well as the rest of us successful. I thank them for the open and honest communication daily and for allowing me to have input also, this eases my mind greatly as I've been so concerned about him transiting between 3 teachers.-Parent
- First of all, a huge thank you to parents! They came prepared for registration, eager for the beginning day, and cooperative in following our school procedures! Thank you parents! -Peggy Mayfield
- Kudos to our office staff, Peggy Patterson, Paula Willis, Ann Kroyer and Amy Mayhew for their tireless work during the entire month of August! These ladies met parents and students with smiles and made each feel welcomed no matter how tired they may have been. When a parent came in at 5:00 on the Friday night before school started, Mrs. Kroyer assisted her in filling out registration paperwork so her child could be ready to begin class on Monday morning! Many days their lunch was put on hold as they assisted those registering. In addition to taking care of our precious students and their parents, they attended to the numerous needs of staff, never missing a beat! Thank you ladies! -Peggy Mayfield
- Registration is a huge endeavor, and so many of our teachers signed up to help during these days. Being involved in the registration process was in addition to getting their classrooms ready for students, so thank you to all those who volunteered. A special thank you to Renee Chapman and her daughter who helped every single afternoon the week after registration. These two ladies helped with continuing registration and with getting letters ready to mail to parents. -Peggy Mayfield
- Jo Shelton stepped right up to the plate and was a tremendous help to Mrs. Northern’s kindergarten sub. Mrs. Northern is home caring for our newest Spring Hill Panther, and was so appreciative of the help! Ms. Jo made student name tags, labeled items, and performed many other tasks to get this classroom ready for our young learners! -Peggy Mayfield
- Leann Holder assisted all over the campus! She took initiative and went looking for ways to help any and all! In many situations, she knew where help was needed before those needing it even knew! Thank you Leann! -Peggy Mayfield
- Deanna Turner and Suzanne Mitchell have been wonderful. Their sweet smiles, willing attitudes, and supportive communication have encouraged everyone. -Peggy Mayfield
These words came from Peggy Mayfield, but they apply to the entire Panther faculty and staff. It is going to be a great year in SHISD. Thanks to the entire Panther staff for all you do each and every day to make Panther Nation a positive experience for students.
Cool App for Teachers
ClassDojo Messenger lets teachers communicate instantly with students and their parents. Teachers set up classes, add students’ names and email addresses for students’ parents. Parents receive an email invite to create a free account on the ClassDojo website that will allow them to connect with the teacher. After this one-time setup process, teachers, students, and parents can easily log into their accounts to send and receive messages. Teachers can choose to send class-wide message blasts with text or images to parents and/or students, or they can send messages to individual students or parents.
