Boys BBQ

On May 27th, the William Davies Middle School was joined by local business owners, members of the fire and police departments, local military, and members of the court system. The Fifth Annual Boys BBQ was an opportunity for forty Davies boys to interact with and receive guidance from community members who have found success in a variety of fields. The day started in the library with speeches from our guests, moved to the gym for trust activities and team-building exercises, and concluded in the library with lunch sponsored by the Hamilton Township Education Association.

Student Council trip to Philadelphia (Brian Beck/Jamie Hayden)

Student Council 8th graders Samantha McConaghy and Grace Woolslayer designed a field trip to Philadelphia when they heard there wouldn't be a field trip for Student Council members this year. After getting the trip approved by Mr. Santilli, applying and receiving a grant from the PTA, the trip was ready to be put in action. Student Council members from the 7th and 8th grades were able to attend the field trip to Philadelphia. On the field trip they visited places such as The Liberty Bell, Carpenters' Hall, Signers Garden, and The National Liberty Museum. A huge thanks to our HTSD PTA!

Laura Uccellini wins prestigious reading award!

Laura Uccellini, an 8th grade Davies student, was one of only 15 students to receive the 2016 180 Student Award in May. This award honors Read 180 and System 44 students who are using reading and math literacy to improve their lives and have shown dramatic growth in their abilities. Laura received a $1000 prize to be used toward her own education, and our school district will receive $1000 in education materials for our classrooms.

"As I have grown, I have learned that with reading you can learn more with every flip of a page," said Laura. "My writing skills have increased immensely in the last two years, letting me move toward my goals."

Pennies for Remembrance

Student Council held a fundraiser in May called “Pennies For Remembrance.” All of the profits raised will be used to dedicate a memorial garden in remembrance of any William Davies Middle School student who lost their life while attending our school. Thank you to the following homerooms for raising the most in each grade level: Mrs. Meile, Mrs. Radice and Miss Magliaro. Miss Magliaro's homeroom also raised more than half of the total ($272.93) themselves! We have received other generous donations, including one from the Winding River Campground in Mays Landing. Thank you to everyone who has donated and continues to support this project. If you are interested in making a donation to this project, please contact the Davies main office at 476-6241.

SWAT

If you know any incoming 6th graders, be sure to show them the following video. Ms. Rosenberger and Mr. Keller created a how-to survive William Davies Middle School video with their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade SWAT (Students Working to Advance Technology) students.

National Spelling Bee

8th grader Vivek Kolli represented the William Davies Middle School at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. He was one of only seven students from New Jersey. Vivek has made his entire school community proud!
