Here's what's happening in MS this week!

ENGLISH
6th Grade: Reading Logs are due Monday. We will finish reading The Graveyard Book this short week! When we return from break, we will begin our final writing projects with the novel.
7th Grade: Reading Logs are due Monday. Friday’s spelling test was delayed until Monday as well. Students will spend Tuesday working on their final projects for Touching Spirit Bear. Ask your child what they are working on!
8th Grade: We will not have an article of the week due to the fact that we only have two days of school. Students will be working on a readers theater performance in groups.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We are studying the countries in Central America by exploring some of the early civilizations like the Maya. We have been learning about aspects of Mayan life including what games they may have played and how their calendar system worked. We will also be exploring their system of math which is a base 20 system. We will be moving on to the Aztecs after Thanksgiving break.

8th Grade: As we delve into the early years of our country, students are finding out it wasn’t easy for the first president. Political factions were starting, Europe was constantly at war and even Washington’s cabinet members weren’t getting along. They also learned about the craziness that was the French Revolution and in the coming weeks how that had an impact on American foreign policy.
MATH
6th Grade: We took a quiz on Friday covering adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Students are welcome to retake past quizzes and tests as long as all prior homework is turned in.
7th Grade: We took a quiz on unit rates on Friday. Students are welcome to retake past quizzes and tests as long as all prior homework is turned in.
8th Grade: We took a quiz on slope and y-intercept on Friday. Students are welcome to retake past quizzes and tests as long as all prior homework is turned in.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We have guest speakers coming Monday from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed to teach us about water resources. We will also begin our study of Biodiversity in Ecosystems.
7th Grade: We are studying different types of matter such as elements, compounds, molecules, and mixtures. The students have picked an element that they are researching. They will construct a poster and do a presentation to the class. Please ask them about it and make sure they get it complete. The next quiz will be the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break.
8th Grade: We have guest speakers coming Tuesday from the Tip of the Mitt Watershed to teach us about water resources. We are also going to be looking into events that may cause climate change.
