“We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become.”
St. Clare of Assisi
From Mr. Merrick
Dear St. Jerome Families,
I hope that your week is going well. I am pleased to introduce Lucy the Lioness, the newest member of our mascot entourage. She joins Jerome and Roary, and we look forward to introducing her to the St. Jerome and St. Lucy communities.
Below is information about our final fundraise for the year- the Summer Cash Raffle with a prize of $5,000. We are sending home three tickets per family in the Wednesday Folder, and we ask that you do your best to sell at least those three tickets (more tickets may be requested from the office). Friends and family (especially those that live out of town) can also Venmo @sjsphila and we will fill out the tickets and send them a message on Venmo with their ticket numbers. For every five tickets that each family sells, you will receive an entry to win a month's tuition payment.
I want to thank you all for your support of our three major fundraisers (the St. Jerome Festival, Race for Education, and the Summer Cash Raffle). These fundraisers allow us to complete special projects to improve our school while also covering operating costs that are not covered by tuition (while keeping tuition increases modest).
One such special project that I have been working on is equipping the classrooms with new projectors as well as Smart Boards. I am pleased to announce that St. Lucy School will be giving us seven Smart Boards to get us started; your support of our fundraisers will allow us to cover the expenses of mounting these boards and acquiring additional Smart Boards or interactive projectors for each of our classrooms. Sr. Lisa and I had already discussed this a few weeks ago, but the teachers of St. Lucy also suggested this after the welcome that they experienced on their visit to St. Jerome.
For next year, in addition to the number of classes we already have, we will be opening a second class of 6th grade, and a third class of Pre-K4. We also have limited openings in our two Pre-K3 classes, but they are filling quickly. Please encourage any friends and neighbors with rising 6th graders, Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 students to check out us out; your referrals are the best form of advertising. Other grades are limited in openings or closed; please know that Fr. Reilly and I are working hard to balance class size while ensuring that we stay within out budget to provide an outstanding education for each one of our students.
Tomorrow, Thursday, is a blue themed dress down day for our Blessed Mother who we honor during the month of May. Donations will go toward our TruMark Kiss a Pig donation (which will be matched and given back to us) that we can use for classroom technology geared toward financial literacy. Everyone is invited to attend the Kiss a Pig event next Wednesday at the Abington Art Center from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM. Mrs. McConnell (6B and 6th grade ELA and Social Studies) will be kissing the pig on behalf of St. Jerome! More information about the event is below. We hope to see you there! These funds will help acquire new projectors and Smart Boards as well.
We offer our congratulations to three of our students who were baptized by Deacon Vass this past Sunday: Charles Benedetto, Theodore Benedetto, and Scarlett Gordon. May God bless them in their faith journey.
Even though we are past the deadline, a limited number of yearbooks are still available for $25.00 each; Click here for the order form and more information. I had to turn in the count at the discounted rate for printing, but I can still adjust the number through Friday, May 20th, but at the increased price. Please make sure to pre-order if your child is interested in a yearbook, as we can not guarantee that we will have any extra books when they are delivered.
I want to thank the Hand family for donating some new hand sanitizing stations and supplies for the entrances. Mr. Hand was able to obtain the materials through his work. We had containers at the entrance since the fall of 2020, but the dispensers look so much better and are easier to maintain and look so much nicer. We greatly appreciate when our families think of us for in-kind donation of materials or services!
Please keep our First Communion class in your prayers as they will receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist this Saturday. All are welcome to join us for Mass at 10:00 AM.
Please join us this evening for Winchester Wednesday!
St. Jerome, pray for us!
