Math
This week, students practiced measuring to the nearest inch. Students also chose if a ruler or yardstick would be the best tool to measure different items in the room. Another skill we practiced was adding 10 to a 2-digit number. The addition facts with sums of 12 were added to the facts second graders need to know. Students practiced these facts playing "Making 12", a card game done with any deck of cards. To prepare for an upcoming cooking activity, students identified 1 cup, 1/2 cup, tablespoons and teaspoons.
In ixl, students may continue practice of addition facts through E18. any of the pattern activities (A and D), and fractions up to U5.
Writing
Students have been writing stories about activities to do with friends. Lots of interesting ideas were listed on their webs. Students found ways to begin their story in a catchy way that would capture the interest of readers. As they write each paragraph, they are attempting to add details to make their story more clear.
Social Studies and Science
Students distinguished the differences between goods and services. A new term, income, was discussed. A skill to help make decisions was introduced. Steps to this process are. Tell what decision you need to make, gather information, list your choices, tell what might happen with each choice. and finally, make the decision.
