Mr. Mauck's Musings
Today is a bittersweet day at JHS. Mrs. Julie Buechler our librarian is retiring and she will be missed. Julie brought a love for students and a passion for literature to her job. With Julie's departure, we are able to welcome back Mrs. Stephanie Jackman Burns to fill her spot.
This week was homecoming week and JHS celebrated with hall decorations, quiz games, and spirit contests each day. This evening we will crown a king and queen at halftime of the football game against Mater Dei. Before the game, all of the members of our newly minted Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced. The hall of fame is housed in a new location in the main gymnasium near the athletic office. Please check it out during athletic contests. Good luck to the girls' golf team at the sectional on Saturday on the Buffalo Trace course. Unified Football makes its debut with a triangular event at 10 am on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The Marching Wildcats will perform at Paoli at 8:55 pm this Saturday and in Avon on September 24th at 6 pm. Please cheer on the Band as they march their way to another state appearance.
The JHS choir sang the National Anthem at a Cincinnati Reds game this week. We have a clip of the amazing sounds in the stadium. Poetry Out Loud will be having call-outs next week for those students wishing to compete. This Thursday marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month and the Spanish classes created a bulletin board to celebrate. Our Friday spirit music with a Hispanic theme had a few dancing in the halls. On October 3rd, the Jasper Library has provided Max Darwin to perform about Success and Mental Health.
Seniors, cap and gown orders are being placed on the 21st during lunch. Please bring your order forms and payments that day. Sophomores, class ring orders are also being placed on the 21st if you have decided to purchase one of the many options available.
Picture retakes will be photographed on October 6th from 7:30 until 1:30 for those students that were not able to get their pictures taken a few weeks ago. On October 12th JHS will offer different educational opportunities for our students in each class. The Freshmen will attend the Tour of Opportunity and will need to have signed permission slips (there is a link in the Guidance section). All the Sophomores will be taking the PSAT. Juniors will be taking a combination of the PSAT, SAT, or ASVAB. Seniors will be taking the SAT, attending a college visit, job shadowing, or performing community service. This is a great opportunity for our students to prepare for their future careers.
Have a great weekend as summer appears to have returned in September.
