Message from Dr. Epperson

Hello from CMS! College week has been lots of fun. We love seeing all the school spirit! I also want to congratulate our choir students on a beautiful evening of concerts this week. We have such talented, hard-working students!

Good luck next week to our McKinney Mavericks team as they participate in their first special olympics event next week. They have been working hard and they are ready to bowl!

There is no school for students Monday, October 11th.

Have a wonderful extended weekend!

Volunteer Request for Day of Awesomeness

We need help supervising the Day of Awesomeness! It is fun, outdoor volunteer opportunity. Please SIGN UP using this link.

Carpool students exit front of building

All carpool students must exit through the front of the building. We can't have pedestrian traffic crossing the bus lane in the back of the school. There is no carpool line behind the school and there should never be pedestrian traffic crossing the bus lane. Students exiting our back doors or crossing bus traffic will be redirected to the front of the building.

Students who live in the neighborhood behind the school and need to cross are being identified and given instructions to get home safely.

National Junior Honor Society

Applications for National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are now being accepted. Membership is open to 7th and 8th grade students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. To qualify for membership:

  • Students must be enrolled in at least 1 advanced course for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • Students must have earned an overall semester grade average for the spring of 2021 of at least 88%. (This is not 88% in each class, but the average of all classes together.)
  • Students must have a clear disciplinary record with no suspensions and no unacceptable (U) conduct grades indicated on their report card during any nine week grading period.
  • Write a 1 page essay that explains how you demonstrate good leadership, service, character, and citizenship.
  • Receive 2 teacher recommendations that show good character and citizenship (1 current teacher and 1 former teacher).

If accepted into NJHS, students must:

  • Be willing to complete 3 community service hours per semester.
  • Attend scheduled meetings once inducted. (Prior arrangements must be made for other school functions (band, choir, cheer, athletics, etc.).
  • Maintain a clear disciplinary record.
  • Maintain exemplary grades (all A’s and B’s).
  • Pay the $15 membership dues PRIOR TO the induction ceremony in November.

8th graders that applied, and were accepted into NJHS at the end of their 6th grade year, do NOT need to reapply. They should have received an invitation to the induction ceremony this week.

Applications MUST be received by 4 PM on Wednesday, October 13. Applications can be returned to Mrs. Stanley in room D107, the library, or the front office. For more information, contact Trisha Stanley at tstanley@mckinneyisd.net

Laptop Fees

The deadline for the annual 1:The World assurance fee will be noon on Thursday, November 18th. Students with unpaid fees will be restricted to our whitelist of academic resources at 5:00 on this day. Students can continue making payments after this deadline either in person with the CMS bookkeeper or online through HAC. Once payment is recorded in HAC the student's laptop will automatically be freed up to its original internet settings within 24 hours.

Thank You 7-11

We want to appreciate the new 7-11 store at Hardin and Virginia. They recently awarded our school a $711.00 grant. They are also inviting our families to enjoy some freebies for their grand opening.

Bring Laptop and Charger Daily

Students need to have a laptop and charger at school every day. Need to replace a lost charger or want to keep an extra in your backpack? HERE is a good charger to purchase.

Want to Substitute Teach?

We have open substitute teaching positions. We are currently looking for a "permanent substitute". This individual works at CMS every day in the capacity needed for that day. Contact the CMS substitute coordinator, Sandra Carter, at sacarter@mckinneyisd.net or 469-302-7918 for details.

McKinney ISD is hiring substitute teachers for the 2021-2022 school year. Every year we replenish our pool of subs who received full-time positions, moved away or retired. The pay range for a substitute in McKinney ISD is $90 - $110 a day.

This is the link to the application: https://webserv.mckinneyisd.net/workspace/

If you apply and want to substitute at CMS, let Mrs. Carter know so we can follow up on your application.

Carpool Information

We need your help keeping students safe in morning and afternoon carpool. If you see incidents that are dangerous for our students on Hardin Rd. or at the Hardin Rd and White Ave. intersection, please report those directly to the McKinney Police Traffic Division using this link.

It is important that everyone is watching for pedestrian traffic and modeling kindness for our students.
