Important Information about 2nd Grade

Welcome!

Welcome to Second Grade! Please see the welcome letter below. In addition, you can learn more about Mr. Hagen and Khun Pornthip by clicking on the links above. We are looking forward to getting to you know you and having a year full of learning and fun. If you have any questions or concerns, PLEASE email me. edh@isb.ac.th

Where do I find my child at the end of the day?

Note that in Grade Two, children are dismissed from the World Language Quad, which is where our class is located. If you pick up your child after school, you can meet them there. If your child takes a bus home, we will bring them to their bus for the first few days until they feel confident to find their bus on their own.

When we eat

You may know that all snacks and lunches are included in ISB tuition fees. We will have a daily morning snack around 9:15 followed by lunch at 10:45. If you do choose to send a snack, we ask that it be a healthy one! Please note that ISB is a nut free campus.

What to send to school

Please send a labeled water bottle and the ISB uniform hat to school daily with your child. It is important that your child wear their hat for recess and PE. Please be sure to label everything that you send to school! School supplies are provided so you do not need to send them.

Home Learning

Home learning will become a part of our classroom routine. I will be sending home books to read in a few weeks after I complete reading assessments, and I will let you know when nightly reading begins. In the first few weeks of school I will not be assigning much home learning as I believe kids need time to settle into new routines and to play in the evenings as they adjust to the new school year. Eventually you can expect Grade Two home learning to be:

· 20 minutes of reading, Monday-Thursday

· 15 minutes of word study or math or other work Monday-Thursday

· Flexible, allowing for students to recognize learning they already do at home like piano, cooking and sports.

Schedule

The biggest things you need to remember as a parent are PE and library days. You might find it helpful to post our class schedule, along with an ISB calendar, in your home to help you remember PE days. For your reference, we have library on Day E. PE is on Days B, D, and F. If you would like to view or print our class schedule, please click on the link above.

Open House

I look forward to seeing you all at ISB open house on Thursday, August 27 at 6:30pm. You will have a chance to see your child’s classroom as well as learn more about the Grade Two curriculum.

Questionnaire

Your child will bring home a questionnaire on Thursday, August 13th. Please complete it and send it back to school with your child.
