Principal's Message
Wow, winter is sure here - I forget every year how cold it can get!!! It another great week of having students in the building and both in-person and Remote students are getting used to the schedule. Thank you to all of you for your support, patience, and understanding!
I share a newsletter with staff every week. In that newsletter, I share new resources, PD opportunities, and often some things to reflect upon. Below is what I shared with them last week and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it would be good to share with you as well. Dr. Lori Elliot is an author of some professional reads. Dr. Elliot shared how tough this past year has been and said, "Things that would never bother us in "normal times" like forgetting a password seem to push us right off the side of a cliff." Then she said that her friend explained it as the struggle between Survival Brain and Learning Brain. She shared this video that I found very helpful and interesting. Understanding Trauma: Learning Brain vs. Survival Brain I think it is safe to say, that all of us live in survival mode from time to time. When we're in the mode, it's hard to learn. Recognize it for what it is and know that it will pass, maybe not right away, but it will. During these times, I encourage you to give yourselves, your children, and staff continued grace.
Aimsweb testing continues this week. The general schedule is listed below. Classroom teachers will share the specific days and times with you. Please note, that because of the testing, we will need to cancel Mrs. Lokken's and Mrs. Graske's services for this week. Other support services such as PA, LMC, ELL, etc. will need to be canceled at times. If that's the case, those teachers will let you know.
Thank you to all of you who are self-certifying by 8:30am! I have moved the information about self-certifying to the "Previous Newsletter" section.
Please continue to continue us with questions or issues!
Best,
Alli Landstrom

News from the LMC
Curbside Book Pick-Up:
- Did you know that Peterson LMC has been providing contactless Curbside Book Pick-Up since October? The LMC will continue to do this for the rest of the school year. Additionally, we are also going to deliver books to classrooms for our In-Person learners too! Reading is so important to learning. The more practice students get, the better they are at reading! We want to give students as many opportunities as possible to find books that they enjoy!
- Below you will find a flyer for the process. A video is also within the flyer. The video explains the process and shows students how to place holds through our online catalog that all students have access to through the SSO.
- It's simple, safe, and contactless! Please know that when books are returned, they are quarantined and then cleaned before being put back into circulation! Please see the attached flyer. If you have any questions, please reach out to me with questions via email: ann_schimmoler@ipsd.org It is my hope that your child uses this process to select books from the LMC. We have a library of books waiting to be read! :) ~ Mrs. Schimmoler

Parent University: COVID-19 Vaccines
As COVID-19 vaccines become available, many questions arise regarding their safety, when children can expect to receive them, and their effectiveness. Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley will discuss COVID-19 vaccines with two local medical experts, Dr. Adam Schriedel and Dr. Jonathan Pinsky, at our next “Parent University: COVID-19 Vaccines” at 7 pm on Thursday, February 11, streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel. Community members can submit questions to be addressed during the webinar here.

Self-Certification Required Before Coming to School
Please note, if you are using the ParentVUE app to self-certify, you need to make sure you are using the most updated version and are logged in. If you have any difficulties with the app, please use the desktop version to complete self-certification.
The self-certification prompt will appear each day you login to ParentVUE, regardless of your child’s schedule for in-person learning. You only need to complete this step on the days your child will be at school.
Here is a helpful way to self-certify:
- Go to your search engine (Google, Safari....)
- Type in "parent vue 204"
- Click the first link that pulls up (it should have the title 'Edupoint Education systems' as part of the link).
- Click on the link and it will have you sign in and the first thing that will pop up after you sign-in is the self-certify questions.
We ask that you please monitor your child's health closely and keep them home if they aren't feeling well. You can report your child's absence using ParentVUE after completing the self-certification process.
