Step Up Day
Third Grade
What are we most looking forward to?
Students were most excited about learning to write in cursive and earning their erasable pens! They can't wait for their cursive handwriting licenses. They're also looking forward to multiplication & division, field trips to West Chester Court House (architecture), Herrs Potato Chip Factory & The Art Museum, learning to play the recorder in music and our STEM projects.
They have goals!
Students shared what they are good at in 2nd grade and set goals for what they want to work on before 3rd grade begins. Reading comprehension, cursive and spelling are some of their goals. They'll depend on parents, friends and teachers to help them accomplish their goals. If they ever feel like giving up they can stay positive, remind themselves that they can do it, or listen to the Rocky theme song to get pumped up! When they start 3rd grade next year we'll revisit the goals they set for themselves to see if they've met them!
We'll work as a team!
Collaborating with classmates is a big part of 3rd grade. We will depend on one another to share ideas and new information. We will create games & projects, teach one another how to use new technology and voice opinions on classroom decisions. Teamwork will be key. While the students visited third grade they worked in small groups on the Balloon Tower Challenge. They were challenged to create the tallest balloon tower possible using the fewest materials possible. They had 5 minutes to come up with their plan and ten minutes to carry it out. It wasn't an easy task, especially as time began to run out, but they did it, and came very close to a tie!
