Maple Messenger
October Edition
Principal's Corner
The weather is starting to cool off. Maple will continue to take students outside for fresh air at lunch recess as much as possible. We feel it is important for our students to get fresh air! Please send your child with a winter coat, hat and gloves each day. If your student is needing any of these items, please reach out to Mrs. Root at rootsk@hoopeston.k12.il.us, or on DoJo, and we will assist you in securing these items.
Parent Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. They are scheduled for November 3rd, 3:00-6:30, and November 4th, 3:00-5:30. Teachers and staff are eager to share your child's progress with you. We are proud of the progress they have made. We ask that you make these conferences a priority. Your teachers should be reaching out to you, if they already haven't, to set up a conference time. We ask that you be courteous of the teacher's time and please call ahead to reschedule if something comes up. We expect 100% participation in conferences.
With the addition of several bus routes to accommodate the in town students, we are asking that parents not park close to the corners on Maple and 4th, Maple and 3rd and Lincoln and 3rd. The buses have a difficult time making turns when there are cars parked so close to the corners. We certainly don't want a collision. You can make the bus driver's lives much less stressful by parking away from the corners. We thank you for your help in this matter.

Parent-Teacher Conference Checklists
Before the conference
- Ask your child how she feels about school.
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his teacher.
- Tell your child that you and the teacher are meeting to help her.
- Make a list of topics that you want to talk about with the teacher.
- Prepare a list of questions such as:
- 1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. Does my child hand homework in on time?
3. Does my child participate in class?
4. Does my child seem happy at school?
5. What can I do at home to help?
During the conference
- Be on time (or early) for the meeting.
- End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
- Relax and be yourself.
- Ask the most important questions first.
- If your child receives special services such as special education or RtI services, ask about your child's progress in those classes.
- Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
- Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
- Thank the teacher.
After the conference
- Talk about the conference with your child.
- Talk about the positive points, and be direct about problems.
- Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
- Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.
