JOIN US FOR THE APEX FUN RUN ON WEDNESDAY!
We are midway through our major fundraiser of the year! The students love the insightful leadership lessons in the classrooms and enjoy having the Apex Crew on campus. We are working toward our school wide goal and need everyone’s help in order to reach it. Using your students’ access code you can log on and make a pledge at www.apexfunrun.com. You can make pledges per lap or simple donation.
Pledge Per Lap means that a dollar amount is pledged for every lap that a student completes at the Apex Fun Run (between 26-36 laps, no more than 36). If a student is absent or unable to run at the fun run they will be counted at 30 laps.
A Simple Donation means that a flat amount of money is pledged regardless of how many laps run. For example, you can pledge $30 simple donation and no matter what number of laps the student runs, the total payment will remain $30.
When is the Fun Run? When is the money due? May I write a check?
The Apex Fun Run is on Wednesday, February 8th. We love to have parents come out and cheer on the students as they run the Apex Track! The times for the runs are as follows:
• 8:15-9am: Grades 6th, 3rd, and 2nd
• 9:15-10am: Grades 4th and 1st
• 10:40-11:10am: Kinder and TK
• 11:15-12:00pm: 5th Grade
Pledge payments are due by February 15th. Please make checks payable to Westpark PTA. Students will receive a collection letter and envelope in their class next week.
We are hopeful we can hit our school goal and would love to see you at the Apex Fun Run on Wednesday!

GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY
In 2015, a small group of six educators took action and created Global School Play Day because of their concern that adults and technology were encroaching on playtime for children. The GSPD team was Inspired to take action by Dr. Peter Gray in his TEDx talk where he argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing, which has led to an increase in childhood depression, stress related issues, and the highest suicide rates in history. On February 4, 2015, over 65,000 children participated in the first ever Global School Play Day.
This year, on February 1st, 2017, Westpark was among the participants in this event, joining 283, 936 other participants. The students who took part enjoyed the event and our teachers learned a great deal about their students by seeing them in a different setting than usual.

Irvine Junior Games, a fundraising track and field event which supports the Irvine Children's Fund, is coming! The event mimics the Olympic Games in which all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from the elementary schools in the district have the opportunity to compete in specific events for prizes (gold, silver, and bronze metals). It takes place at Irvine High School on May 7, 2017.

Below is a link for more info on the games and/or to register your son/daughter for the events of their choosing.
http://irvinechildrensfund.org/irvine-junior-games/
Space is limited due to stadium capacity, so registration is on first come basis. There is a registration fee of $35, which includes an event T-shirt. I strongly urge you all to register your son/daughter as it is a great opportunity to represent Westpark, as well as a fun day of activities with peers.
Should you have any questions regarding the Irvine Junior Games, please do not hesitate to email at JoshuaBerman@iusd.org or ingridgreen@iusd.org.
