SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW!!
This year....
We hope you will join with us in making reading a priority for every student, every day - as this is the single most important factor that impacts student academic success throughout their school years. Our homework policy includes reading each night for students, gradually increasing in minutes over the years. (Never let your child tell you they don't have homework..) We do this so that students will gain in fluency, in vocabulary and in comprehension. Please talk to your child about what they are reading, read with them, and read to them.... what you deem important matters more than anything we can do here at school. You are your child's first and most influential teacher! Let's make 2020 the year all of our Baby Bengals become life-long readers!
Buses
- You can find your child's bus route on our website
- We will place a bus-tag on the bookbags the first day.. please leave those attached all year
- Please be patient with bus times the first couple of weeks. Drivers will be familiarizing themselves with students, checking tags, etc and taking time to get it right.
Bus Tracking
- You can download the Here comes the Bus App to find out where the bus is at all times. Our school code is 67500, you will need your child's lunch number to log in.
- If you already have the app, you will need to log in again at the beginning of the year for the new school year.
Carpool Procedures
- You will ALWAYS need your carpool sign for student security.
- The line does NOT start before 3:40 so we do not back traffic up on Dwight Rowland Road for extended period
- Always keep the entrance clear for emergency vehicles
- There is NO LEFT TURN into the parking lot during carpool hours.
- Please pull up in front of the gym if you need to secure your child so we can keep the line moving
Transportation Information
If you change transportation, we ask that you send in a note, so we will be sure that we are on the same page with you. Should you have an emergency and need to change transportation, you may call the front office; but with 800 students, it would be helpful if you reserved this for emergencies only.
Communication
Reminders
- School lunches are $2.75 - please increase any spending limit you may have for your child on www.MySchoolBucks.com
- If your child needs any medication to be given at school, WCPSS policy requires a medical form be completed by the doctor and you will need to sign in the medication in the office.
- Our new school nurse is Kim Perry, and she is happy to meet with you if you have any questions at all!
- Encourage your child to read a little every day!!
New Kindergarten Parents
If you will plan to arrive a little early on your first day this week, you may park and walk your child to their classroom as early as 8:40 - to take some pics, and to avoid the rush of the first day. In the afternoon, if your child is a bus rider, it's a great way for them to learn the bus procedures, and to get some extra attention from the bus driver, since there are so few K students on our staggered entry day. If your child is a car rider, please remember not to arrive at school prior to 3:40. If you must, we ask that you find a parking space, back in and wait for the line to form. You will get your car-rider sign when you bring your child into the classroom in the morning.
If you are packing your child's lunch, please remember to pack items your child can open independently. (Try this out at home first.) Parents are always welcome for lunch, but we encourage you to let your child experience lunch the first few days with their new friends first - it's a wonderful time to learn to socialize !
Remember to bring in a change of clothes in a plastic ziploc bag, marked with your child's name, a towel for resting, and a bookbag (no rolling bags.)
It's going to be a GREAT year!!
