March 29, 2020 ... We can do this!
Just Checking In :)
Hello Cherokee Families ~
Hope your family is doing well and staying safe and healthy! As we enter the third week of our school closure, we miss our students more than ever!
We recognize that a school is not just a building where instruction occurs but also a place where we come together and stay connected as a community. Even though we are not physically able to come together, we are making every effort to stay connected.
We hope you enjoyed and participated in our virtual spirit week last week. It was wonderful to engage our students even though we were not physically together. We have created another virtual spirit week opportunity for this week. Essential workers are important everyday heroes; let’s honor and celebrate them this week. For more details and information, see below.
Our staff and families are connecting online, so please be sure to sign-up for our Facebook Page. Each evening, our staff provides a story or activity to connect with your families at home.
Since next week is our scheduled Spring Break, supplemental learning activities will not be emailed on Monday, April 6, 2020. Once we receive additional information from the State and Michigan Department of Education, we will update you on our next steps
We are thinking of your family ~ Keep safe!

Remember the Importance of Structure
Every family looks different, therefore, your schedules will look different as well. As you think of what works for your family, your schedule could include:
- Working on Mind: This is academic work with time spent on reading, writing, math, science.
- Working on Body: This is the physical work like getting outside, being physically active, working on Art or Music
- Showing Leadership: This includes helping out the family with chores, etc.
- Showing Kindness: This includes being kind, playing games, having fun with friends and family/siblings.
On Friday, all Cherokee students received a calendar for 4 weeks to record each day they work on these categories. We encourage your family to use this resource and continue goal-setting/tracking progress at home.
