Report cards for the second marking period will be sent home with students tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd.
NEW PARENT OPEN HOUSE
We invite families who are considering Christian education for their children to visit Shalom during one of our open houses. The first one for the year will be next Tuesday, January 27th, from 9 AM-6 PM. Tours will be given and questions answered. Please pass this information along to anyone you know who may be interested. Additional open house dates are Tuesday, February 24th, and Tuesday, March 24th.
If you have one of the open house yard signs from last year and would be interested in displaying it again, let us know and we can supply you with new date stickers that will cover last year’s dates. We also have additional stands if you need one. We can supply you with a complete new sign if you would like. Contact the school office.
COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT
Shalom will be hosting College Financial Aid Night on Thursday, January 29th, at 6:30 PM in the Learning Commons. Our presenter will be Greg Gearhart, Director of Financial Aid at Messiah College. Greg will share valuable information about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), loans, grants and scholarships. While this meeting is primarily for parents of high school juniors and seniors, anyone may attend. If you have questions contact school guidance counselor, Mike Shank, firstname.lastname@example.org. Parents of juniors will have a meeting following the session to discuss the senior class trip.
JUNIOR CLASS PANCAKE BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER – SATURDAY, JANUARY 31ST
You are invited to an all you can pancake breakfast from 7 AM-11 AM next Saturday, January 31st. The meal is on a donation basis, and includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice and coffee. Proceeds will benefit the class missions trip in the fall. “Flames Frenzy” is that day, and we will be hosting CVCS in basketball games. Check the athletic tab on our website, www.shalomca.com, for game times.
Don’t forget re-registration meetings for our current families will be held Monday, March 2nd and Tuesday, March 3rd, at 6:30 PM. Current Shalom families planning to re-register their children for the coming school year are expected to attend one of the meetings. A letter containing more information will be sent mid-February. Current families who have new students to register will register them at the re-registration meeting.
BUS DRIVER NEEDED
We are in imminent need of a bus driver for a Shalom route. Interested persons should contact contractor Gene Sword, 301-465-2121.
Each Wednesday during the spring semester Chininye Thomas will be interning at Shalom with the administration. She is a graduate student at Shippensburg University. Mrs. Thomas is a Nigerian student in the Educational Leadership program who had an interest in interning at a Christian school.
Shalom’s annual Dutchfest quilting bee will be held in Shalom’s Learning Commons, Jan. 20-23 and Jan. 26-30. Quilting times are 8:30-4:00 daily. We invite all quilters to come! Lunch will be provided on Friday. Contact Nancy Watkins at 717-263-0811 if you have questions.
BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION
We received $1700 from boxtop money this year. Thank you for your diligence in cutting these out and sending them in. We appreciate you supporting Shalom in this way. This year we will use the funds for an industrial vacuum for the Learning Commons and software for our announcement TV.
GIANT/MARTIN’S A+ REWARDS
As of January 12th, $958.89 has been earned for Shalom and Growing Tree Preschool from 155 shoppers who registered their bonus cards. At this time last year we had 138 registered cards with earnings of $592.
