News You Can Use
January 25, 2022
Antonio whispers back to her, "We watch out for each other. I’ll keep my eye on you two. And you do the same."
Are you enjoying the One Book, One School read of Appleblossom the Possum? It’s not virtual school; it’s parents / siblings / grandparents sharing the love of a good story. Thank you to the organizing team at RES for reigniting this annual tradition.
Coming together is a key focus of our PTA mission and we’re thrilled your joining us to connect or reconnect again. From in-school assemblies — check out Taproot below — to the new community events happening soon, we’re focusing on ways to come together.
Here are a few ways to get involved:
-PTA Member Event — private, outdoor ice-skating along the LI Sound at the delightful Longshore oceanfront in Westport. Feb 6th - members only. Skates and rink - FREE! All family members welcome. Sign Up coming this week!
-PTA Advocacy — Dr. McKinnon offered an in-depth 60 minute overview of the 2022-2023 Proposed Redding K-8 Budget on Saturday (click here if you missed it). Now is the right time to advocate, clarify and connect.
-PTA Festivals — it’s happening and the events are not to be missed!!!
Do you love all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)? Then you need to be involved in Imagine - A - World Outdoors! All the planning is complete. Now they need a volunteer like you…love a bug hotel (they’re building it), love a science fair (it’s happening), love composting (it’s ready to heat up!). 1 to 3 hrs of time in April.
Prefer to wow kids with facts on South Africa? Share your familial roots in Poland? Love to practice Capoeira? The International Festival is for you … don’t hesitate to find out how easy it is to get involved (1-4 hrs of time) and celebrate a culture important to you.
Redding is a small and mighty community of friends and neighbors who won’t hesitate to pop by with freshly picked flowers, that pinch of salt or all important chainsaw when the trees come down. If you have not met your tribe at RES yet, it’s time to get involved in the community!
We're looking forward to seeing you soon,
Angela and Meredith
Melissa Labrosciano, Principal
Why did you get into teaching:
When I first started college, going into teaching was not on my radar. I actually started college as a dance and theater major. After a few too many back injuries, I was approached by a very good friend to apply to the School of Education. At the time I had been a camp counselor and also was teaching dance classes at a local dance studio so I already knew I loved being around children and watching them grow, learn, and develop their passions! I was accepted into the School of Education and continued my studies in elementary and special education with an additional focus on remedial reading and language arts. After 20 years in the world of education, I cannot imagine doing anything else!
Which teacher had the greatest impact on you and why:
I have been very fortunate to have tremendous educators and mentors throughout my career. Such educators and mentors allowed me to take risks, try new initiatives, and take on added responsibilities - every opportunity helped me develop as a teacher and leader. Without these experiences, I would not be where I am today and I will forever be grateful to all those educators who believed in me and that I learned from along the way.
Favorite Author/book: Wonder by R.J. Palacio
What’s the funniest/most impactful/most notable thing a student/staff has ever said to you:
A teacher once shared with me that my leadership gave her back her love of teaching. Her words still resonate with me today because it is a reminder that I not only have the ability to positively impact the lives of students but also their teachers too.
Birthday: March 9th
Favorite Food: My kryptonite is a good donut, I cannot pass one up!
Favorite Snack: Chips and Guacamole
Favorite Beverage: Coffee with Almond Milk
Favorite Sports Team: My son’s hockey team
Favorite Store: Currently, my Amazon cart is never empty!
Favorite Music/Song: I do not have a favorite genre of music. I enjoy listening to a mix of tunes on my playlist.
Favorite Color: Green or Purple
Favorite Quote: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Favorite way to pamper myself: A day at the spa is always a good day!
Favorite free time activity: Attending my children’s sporting events, baking, and running!
Anything else you would like to share?
As I shared in a previous communication I have a daughter, Stella (6th grade), and a son, Sebastian (4th grade). We love our rescued Labrador/Great Dane mix, Koy. Most weekends you will find me freezing in a hockey rink cheering on Sebastian or celebrating Stella at one of her many sporting events. I look forward to getting to know and joining the RES community. It is such an honor and privilege to lead RES!
