One of the goals of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is instructional excellence and at Seawell Elementary School, we are committed to giving your child the best education possible! To help us accomplish this goal, we are implementing district-wide benchmark assessments for ELA in grades 3-5 and for math in grades 3-5. These short assessments, which are focused on the content learned during the previous quarter, will help us to:
track individual students’ progress, identify individual needs,
provide appropriate interventions,
examine current curriculum,
and make necessary modifications to daily instruction.
Benchmarks will be given online three times a year at the end of the first, second and third quarters and will provide teachers with immediate results. These benchmarks, developed by TE21 in collaboration with district staff and aligned with our curriculum, will replace the previous benchmark assessments. Although benchmarks will not be graded, we encourage all of our students to do their best work as it informs how a teacher will differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the child.
Below are our benchmark timelines for this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Quarter 1: 11/6-11/17
Quarter 2: 1/22-2/2
Quarter 3: 4/4-20

Seawell needs your ideas and vision for the new CHCCS District and School Strategic Plans
Tuesday, November 14, 2017 5:30-7:30pm, Seawell Elementary School Cafeteria
Hello Seawell community,
The current strategic plan for the district and our own School Improvement Plan end with the current school year. To craft the new plans, the district and Seawell need your input. The School Improvement Team (SIT) at Seawell will be hosting a Table Top Conversation. This is an opportunity for you to voice your ideas and vision for the new strategic plans. The topics will include:
HOW SHOULD WE DEFINE SUCCESS FOR STUDENTS IN CHCCS?
WHAT IS CHCCS DOING WELL?
WHERE IS CHCCS FALLING SHORT?
WHAT GOALS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE NEW STRATEGIC PLAN?
In addition, the district will hold community Table Top Conversations for those who are not affiliated with a school, or for those who cannot make it to their school event, and one for students.
