Private Music Lessons

Much of the success of the Johnson Jaguar Band can be traced back to our students’ high-quality individual musicianship. That individual musicianship is developed not only during daily band class and at-home practice but through our incredible Private Lesson Program.

The band staff has worked diligently to assemble the finest local professionals on each and every instrument to deliver 1-on-1 lessons to our students who enroll in the program! Lessons occur on campus before, during, and after school. Although not required, lessons are highly encouraged. Private lessons are not for remediation but rather enrichment!

Students are encouraged to reach out directly to an instructor to sign up and schedule lessons.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunites

Financial Assistance/Asistencia Financiera

We know that this post-COVID world can be financially trying for families and never want a student to not participate or eat due to financial constraints. If you are having financial difficulties and need assistance with uniform supplies or meals (not fees), please know that you can contact your JHS Boosters for hardship assistance via Carmen Sifuentes at vp@johnsonbands.com.

If you need to make payment arrangements or financial assistance regarding fees, please contact Mr. Lucita at Joey.Lucita@hayscisd.net

--------------------

Lucita@hayscisd.net

Quotes for a Cause

George Torres Farmers Insurance has partnered with to provide a unique opportunity to

raise money to support the JHS Band by requesting your free, no-obligation insurance quote! The goal is to raise money for the band and to give families peace of mind that they are paying a reasonable amount when it comes to insurance. His agency specializes in reducing student driver cost on family auto insurance. His agency will donate $10 to the JHS Band for each family that completes the attached quick survey. Your information will solely be utilized for a one-time, no-obligation quote and will be deleted once completed. There is no cap on how many families can participate in this opportunity but you must be over 18 years of age to receive a quote. Less than 1 minute to complete the survey could add up to an immeasurable amount of support for JHS Band. Plus, you might even save a lot on your insurance! Act quickly and share - the survey and this opportunity will only last through the Jaguar Jog on September 17th!

US Bands San Antonio Showcase

From the director

And, so, the adventure continues! First week of school is down, and we move into the excitement of week number two.

Let me say THANK YOU to all of you for working so hard on our first fundraiser of the year! We are excited to share that you raised $58,876 in the GroupFund fundraiser! I am also happy to share a thank you to Jacob Cuellar, Andrea Rey, Zofia Reyes, and Alex Silvert (and the parents that accompanied them!) for approaching various car dealers and returning with a commitment of $10,000! Combine these efforts and we almost reached our ultimate goal! Way to kick off our jOURney to Grand Nats!

This week we can look forward to our first football game and our first full week of regular practices. For our newcomers, each week you will receive a detailed schedule of the football game and/or contest that week. That schedule will include the address to our performance, departure times as we head to our game or contest and then return times from the event. Please keep in mind that our return times are estimates based upon the location of the event and time of that events completion. There are factors that can influence our arrival time back at Johnson such as traffic and the clock stoppage during the game. We will keep everyone informed of our progress using the Remind app on our way back to Johnson. Please plan to be at the school when we arrive. This allows everyone to get home at the earliest time possible. We also ask that you NOT block the bus loop or park in the small lot behind the Band Hall. This impacts the ability of our buses pulling up to drop off the students and for our eighteen-wheeler tractor-trailers to park in the small lot behind the Band Hall.

Speaking of picking up at Johnson! Please make sure that if you pick your child up from Johnson High School after school you pick them up at the parent pick-up, not in the bus loop. Students can be picked up in the bus loop after marching band practice which finishes at 7 or 8 p.m. However, after school, please do not attempt to pick your student up in the bus loop or in the lot behind the Band Hall as there is much traffic created by the buses and pedestrians. Please pick them up in front of the school at parent pick up.

Make sure you arrive each day with your water jugs already iced, some snack for energy before practice and your appropriate marching clothing, sunscreen, hat, etc. Again, you will receive a detailed schedule early this week via email, the Remind app, and the students and/or parents may pick up a hardcopy in the Band Hall.

Band uniform for the first football game is the summer uniform which includes khaki shorts, black polo shirt (tucked in), black belt, black marching shoes, and short black socks. Colorguard members will receive specific instructions from Mr. Washington concerning what they wear for each football game. Due to the sun being directly in our eyes for the first half of home football games, students are allowed to wear sunglasses in the stands. Students also need to make sure that they fill their water jugs and take them to the game. For our new member parents, please do not bring your student any food or drink during the game. There is a meal plan in place for all games, or students can bring food to eat before we depart. Just as another reminder, everyone rides the bus round-trip for all games and contests.

This week we begin Master Classes for both Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony. The Master Classes will be held during your band period. Please make sure you have your concert instrument at school on the day of your master class. Tuesday is Woodwind Master Classes and Wednesday is Brass Masterclasses.

Let’s have another great week and as always It’s “A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!”.

The Beat--A Weekly Update for Percussion-Specific Information

Week 1 is in the books! We have had a fantastic week getting settled in to our new school schedule. This week we will be moving to our normal weekly schedule. Monday and Tuesday nights from 5 - 8 p.m, Thursday 5 - 7 p.m., and Friday morning from 7 - 8 a.m.. Really looking forward to our first pep rally and football game this coming Friday. We will be revealing our “cards” to the general public. The audience is going to love it! Hope to see you there!

Staying Informed

Staying Informed! The Jaguar Band strives to keep everyone informed about our events and increase the opportunity to answer questions and create conversations with our community. This year, you will be able to find out information not only in our Newsletter and on our Band Calendar, but we will also be sharing them on our Johnson Band website events page and as events on our Facebook page. Our events on Facebook will be used as a primary source for updates and reminders. Don't forget to use your section GroupMe's as a quick and effective way to get your questions answered!

Service Hours

The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.

All meals are fast food and will include an entrée, chips, fruit, cookie and a water. Payment deadlines for meal plans are listed below.
