Parents met with Board Trustees Coleman and Blake

About 20 parents met with board trustees and the Superintendent on Wednesday last week. The parents wanted to get to know the trustees and why they wanted to represent the schools. It was an interesting evening. Parents greatest concern was class size and substitutes. They were very concerned about the number of students in each class. They wondered how teachers could possible give the attention they need to give to English Language Learners and students with social emotional issues when they have so many students in each classroom. The message was unified and they were very passionate about it. The parents want the trustees to return to discuss special education services next.

Our budget has been released and I will be putting together a draft to share with you this week. The priorities remain as before from the feedback I have been receiving.

-TC Lab site

-Instructional Assistants

Of course there are other items such as materials, subs and coaching. I believe we have enough funding to cover our needs for next year. We may have to cut back in some areas but over all we are looking ok for 2019-2020.

Staffing for 2019-2020

At this time I am unable to make assignments. My hope is after the IDT meeting this week I will be able to make some predictions. As of now it is possible that we will have 14 or 15 classroom teachers. This is what is uncertain to me right now. It appears that we may have split class. I will share the options with the leadership team at the end of the month.

Cinco de mayo on tres de mayo

We are in the planning stages of the celebration and Talent Show. We will be sending a letter home asking for donations. Please send home with students. Craig is heading the talent search. Valley Vibes and Ballet Folklorico will be performing. Friday, May 3 at 5pm!!

Wellness Survey

Please take a minute to complete this survey. After Alisa visited I realized that we needed to customize the experience for our staff. This is an attempt to get you what you need. We/I have been so focused on what kids and families need to be healthy, that I was over looking the need to take care of ourselves. Thank you! m

Lucy Calkins and her Team (Repeat)

I wanted to share with you one of the many reasons I am an advocate for readers and writers workshop and the professional development Lucy Calkins and her team offer.

Attached is a statement recently published by Lucy and her colleagues regarding their work.

For me it is not just about the level of rigor, quality of instruction and development of independent thinkers and learners... it is also about equity, social justice and racism.
