JANUARY IB ATTRIBUTE OF THE MONTH-INQUIRER
To be an inquirer is to nurture our curiosity and develop skills for inquiry and research. We want to learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life. Ways that we promote this attribute is to encourage questioning, provide opportunities for research, and to get them excited about learning.
REMINDER
SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY!
Please remember to use the crosswalk when walking from the parking lot to the school door.
Conduct Scores start next week!
Each week, your K-8 scholar will receive a weekly conduct score to open the line of communication between home and school. This information will help you have meaningful conversations with your scholar and their teacher about their conduct. Conduct scores do NOT carry a grade weight or any value toward final grade calculations.
Conduct scores can be viewed every Friday starting on Friday 1/13/23 in Power school after 5 PM.
SENSORY PATHS
We are in the process of securing a quote and approval to add a sensory path to our courtyard area. This is a fun way for our scholars to play and interact in an active way. Take a look at an example design.* More information is forthcoming.
If you are a Franklin family and have a business and interested in providing a quote for this project, please contact Ms. Jabar.
* Picture below is from a different campus but similar design is desired.
MYP TRANSITION TIME INCREASED
Over the past 4 weeks, Leadership/Administration team has assisted with the transition of students to and from classes. Our students are doing a great job. The current master schedule only allowed 3 minutes per transition. We adjusted the time to 4 minutes on a trial basis and it has been a huge success. Yesterday, we only had 5 tardies. Historically, we issue over 25 tardies a day. Very proud of our MYP students.
* We have added 3 minutes to MYP lunch schedules :)
K-5 RECESS SUPERVISION
Over the past 4 weeks, Ms. Torres and administration have reviewed the current playground supervision model. Upon reviewing many factors, the model is being tweaked. Administration is aware that the roll out created some confusion among students, teachers and parents and since then clear clarification has been provided to our staff members. Our K-5 Team Leaders will provide Ms. Jabar a rotation schedule that works best for their classes. It is very important that only one class is utilizing the playground equipment at a time for safety reasons. Our grade levels have over 100 scholars who are at recess at the same time. Students are encouraged to socialize and play with their friends. Safety and supervision must be top priority.
Q. So what has changed in regards to the playground?
A. Each teacher is supervising their own class instead of a stationary location around the play areas. Each teacher knows their own students and this allows for active supervision. Additionally, for safety reasons, we are allowing one class to utilize the playground structure to ensure that it is safe and not overcrowded. We are encouraging scholars to continue to play with their friends regardless of what class they are in.
PYP AND MYP LUNCHES
Q. What has changed with PYP lunches?
A. PYP scholars will remain sitting at their designated class table. Teachers are reviewing the expectations of lunch behaviors. Grade levels will be providing administration with lists of incentives to reward positive lunch behavior.
Q. What has changed with MYP lunches?
A. Lunch A- Scholars will report to 4th period, check in with their 4th period teacher and will be escorted into the cafeteria and at their assigned table. Cafeteria monitors will dismiss students back to class at the end of lunch.
A. Lunch B- The 4th period teacher will escort their class with their belongings into the cafeteria and seat them at their assigned table with their bookbags under the table. Cafeteria monitors will dismiss students to 5th period at the end of lunch.
PYP Incentives: Eating outside at the picnic tables, Tropical Sno, SLA treats and more.
MYP Possible incentives: Friday- Open Seating ( students are still walked down by their teacher but permitted to sit at any table) ,Eating outside at the picnic tables, Tropical Sno, SLA treats and more.
Safety and supervision of our scholars is top priority. We are in the process of adding more staffing and parent volunteers to the lunch periods to aid in providing a more enjoyable lunch time.
