2023 Summer Reading Information
One District + One Book = A Love (❤️) of Reading
Once again, CASD students in grades K-5 will engage in a month-long reading experience where the entire elementary division will read James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. A copy of the book was distributed to each family before the end of the school year along with a shared reading schedule. The event will begin on 7/10 and will culminate on 8/3 with an outdoor movie night held at Rainbow Elementary School. Virtual trivia games will be held throughout July to test student/family knowledge. We look forward to reading along with you!

6th Grade Summer Reading
Students entering 6th grade must complete the REQUIRED assignment listed on the district website.
Each student received a book from the suggested book list at the end of the school year. New students that enroll before 8/1 are required to complete the assignment.
Most of the summer reading titles can also be accessed through the Mackin Library, which can be found on your child's CLEVER page.
Summer reading information can be found on the district website (see below).
Lexia Core 5
This summer, your child can use Lexia® Core5® Reading at home. Core5 is a fun, computer-based program that has helped millions of students improve their literacy skills. The activities in Core5 support and build on your child’s classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Here’s how Lexia Core5 Reading works:
• Your child begins Core5 at a starting point that fits his or her needs.
• Online activities include direct instruction and immediate feedback as your child learns new skills.
• Progress and performance in the online activities are saved and available for teacher review.
• During the school year, your child has the opportunity to participate in collaborative, hands-on activities to reinforce skills introduced online and further develop learning. Over the summer, you can support progress in the program by reading daily with your child and talking about what you have read.
