Engineering Water Filters
Students planned, created and improved their water filters. Although many said they still wouldn't drink the water, we learned A LOT about filtration systems and the engineering process!

Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
ISTEP+ TESTING BEGINS THIS WEEK! WE WILL TAKE THE APPLIED SKILLS PORTION OF THE ISTEP TEST, BEGINNING ON MONDAY, MARCH 2ND. THE LAST TEST IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED ON THURSDAY, MARCH 5TH. WE WILL BEGIN TESTING EACH DAY AT 8:55AM. Please make sure your child receives plenty of rest, and eats a healthy breakfast!
LITERACY – Students will examine different text structures and analyze how the author's choice of organization affects the story. We will also begin Q3 book clubs. ISTEP+ Applied Skills Testing begins on Monday, March 2nd.
WRITING – Students continue writing fictional narratives. We are using mentor texts to help us improve our writing. Students have set individual goals for their narrative writing this quarter based on their 1st quarter rubric and feedback. Ask your child what his/her goal is and how they are working to improve it. Young Author books will be published for Art and Author Night on MARCH 24th.
MATH – We continue Unit 9. In this unit, students work with coordinate graphs, extend their understanding of area, and develop a formula for volume.
SPELLING – No Spelling Test next week.
SCIENCE – Students will create a way to teach others about the engineering design process. They are in groups based on each step of the process, and we will create a display outside our classroom.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will return to SS after ISTEP! :)
TIPS – No TIPS next week.
