PowerSchool Parent Portal

It is imperative that all parents set up their PowerSchool Parent Portal accounts. This is a great tool for parents to be able to see their students schedules, monitor their grades and attendance, sign up for athletics, and reach out to teachers.

Instructions on how to set up your account should arrive home this weekend for all incoming 9th graders and new students to BHS. If you are the parent of a 10th, 11th or 12th grade student that does not currently have a PowerSchool account, please contact the main office at BHS to have instructions emailed or mailed out to you.

To set up your account, please follow the specific instructions mailed home. You will need to create an account with the Username and Password provided. This information will allow for you to create your own username and password, which you will use for logging into PowerSchool, after the account is created.

Once you have an account, PowerSchool is also accessible as an app on your phone or tablet. If you download the app for use, it will instruct you to enter the district code before your username and password. The district code for Bloomfield is MTMR.

Bus Routes

All bus routes and pick up times are posted on the Bloomfield Public Schools Website. You can also access your child's bus information by going to the Dattco Website directly.

Students will need to wear a mask on the bus. All windows will be open for ventilation.

The Dattco Website can be accessed by clicking on the link below:

Laptop Distribution

All students at BHS will be given a Dell Laptop to be used during the school year. Laptops are to be distributed to students following the below schedule:

Grade 9:

  • All Grade 9 students will receive their laptop at Freshman Orientation on August 30th

Grades 10, 11 & 12:

  • Students interested in borrowing a Dell Laptop for the 2021-2022 school year, may pick up their laptop between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on August 30th, 31st, or September 1st in the main office.

If you are not able to make one of the laptop pickup times, students can pick up a laptop after school on Thursday, September 2nd or Friday, September 3rd.

Laptops are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Attendance Policy

BHS will be adhering to the state attendance requirements for receiving class credit. Once a student receives 5 attendance points in a semester course or 10 attendance points in a full year course, they will lose credit in that course and need to retake the course, if needed for graduation. If your child needs to miss school, whether it be in person or virtual, please contact BHS to inform us of the nature of the absence.

Any senior who jeopardizes their graduation due to attendance, will not be permitted to engage in any senior activities; i.e. commencement ceremony, prom, senior class trip, etc.

Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

BHS is following the guidelines of the CIAC in regards to Fall Athletics and all fall sports teams are currently practicing and getting ready for competition. If your child would like to participate in fall athletics, please contact the coach by email. All Fall coaches emails are listed below:

We will also be offering a variety of different clubs and activities once the school year begins. Details on these clubs and how to sign up for them will be sent out to parents soon.

Freshman Orientation

We encourage all of our incoming 9th graders to attend Freshman Orientation on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for students to meeting their administrators, teachers, become familiar with the building, and even follow their daily schedule, so they are prepared for the first day of school. Students will also be issued a laptop for their use through the school year during orientation. Transportation will be provided. Please have your child at the nearest intersection to your home for pick up at 12:30 p.m. on that day. Students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. and dropped off at the same intersection.

Students are not required to be in uniform for orientation but will need to be in uniform for the first day of school.

Summer Reading Requirement For All Incoming 9th Graders

All incoming 9th graders are required to complete mandatory summer reading. This year, students will read, Claudette Colvin: Twice Towards Justice and complete the assignments via Google Classroom. Books were distributed at Carmen Arace Middle School at the end of the school year. If your child did not receive a copy, they can be picked up at the BHS Main Office.

To access the summer reading assignments, please go to the following link: https://classroom.google.com/c/MzU2NzQ3NDgzMjM0?cjc=3z5nngi. The classroom code is: 3z5nngi. The best way to complete the assignment is electronically on google classroom. Students can print a pdf and complete the assignments handwritten. All summer reading is due at the start of the school year. Students will receive a grade for their summer reading, which will be reflected in their quarter one grade.

Save The Date: BHS Open House

BHS will be having its annual Open House on Wednesday, September 15th. This will be a virtual event and a great opportunity for parents to hear from the BHS Leadership Team, meet their child's teachers and learn about the classes they are taking. We look forward to having all of our parents attend. More details will come out closer to the event.
