Playing with Poetry
Poetry Unit
We have started our poetry unit and the students have been intrigued! Please ask your child what their favorite poem has been so far and the deeper meaning it has. We even studied Pantoums and wrote poems of our own on a self-selected topic.
If You Give a ____ a _____
On "Take Your Child to Work Day" we brought in several children's stories with this theme. The students enjoyed reading them in groups and discussing the similarities. Creativity blossomed as the students wrote their own children's stories using the common format.
PARCC
We took the final PARCC assessments last week, so we are finished for the academic year! On Wednesday, May 27th, eighth grade students will be taking the Science portion of the NJASK.
Exploring Types of Poetry
This week we defined the seven types of poetry. Then, in small collaborative groups, we rotated through stations to explore seven different poems. While rotating, the students had a task of identifying the styles of the poems.
Gerunds & Infinitives
The students have been defining and identifying higher level grammar and have been successful! If interested, please ask your child and check our Daily Log to see what they have been learning.
