APRES Dolphins SWIM May '21

An Extraordinary Place to Learn

A Message From Principal Wilson

Greetings Dolphin Family!

We have 13 days left together this school year. While this has been one of the most challenging years in education, it has also proven to be one of the best. We have shown our resilience, tenacity, and our ability to pull together for the good of one another and our community. There is nothing we can't make it through TOGETHER! I am so proud of all that our dolphin scholars have been able to accomplish despite facing uncertain times. I am proud of our staff for never giving up even when times were tough and for always putting their students first. I am proud of our parents, for being patient and flexible, even when it wasn't easy to do so. Your level of understanding and support throughout the school year is greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed. Thank you Dolphin Family for simply being EXTRAORDINARY!

Those students who opted to test in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades completed the Georgia Milestones Assessment Series last week. We had about 90 scholars in the 3 grade levels combined to test and are excited to see their results. Even in a pandemic, our teachers and scholars continued to work on mastering grade level standards despite the learning disruption from last school year. All students will take the iReady End of Year Diagnostic this week so that we can have an accurate measure of their growth from the fall assessment.

As we close out the school year, we will have Virtual End of Year Celebrations for each grade level. The dates for the events are below and you should have received information from your scholar's teacher regarding the events and access links.

May 18th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o Pre-K 9am-10am

o Kindergarten 10am-11am

May 19th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o First Grade 9am-10am

o 2nd Grade 10am-11am

May 20th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o 3rd Grade 9am-10am

o 4th Grade 10am-11am

May 25th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o 5th Grade 6pm

I would like to say thank you to our families who made Teacher Appreciation Week 2021 special for our very deserving teachers. Our theme for the week was "Bar None, You Are the Best!" Special thanks to our SGC for providing donuts and cupcakes for the dessert bar; PTA for the salad bar; Community partners Sandtown Pub for the food truck and Chick fil A for breakfast; Admin Team for the ice cream bar; and our Extraordinary Sunshine Committee for the "Nacho Average Teacher" Taco Bar. We had a blast celebrating our phenomenal staff.
