APRES Dolphins SWIM May '21

An Extraordinary Place to Learn

A Message From Principal Wilson

Greetings Dolphin Family!

We have 13 days left together this school year. While this has been one of the most challenging years in education, it has also proven to be one of the best. We have shown our resilience, tenacity, and our ability to pull together for the good of one another and our community. There is nothing we can't make it through TOGETHER! I am so proud of all that our dolphin scholars have been able to accomplish despite facing uncertain times. I am proud of our staff for never giving up even when times were tough and for always putting their students first. I am proud of our parents, for being patient and flexible, even when it wasn't easy to do so. Your level of understanding and support throughout the school year is greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed. Thank you Dolphin Family for simply being EXTRAORDINARY!

Those students who opted to test in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades completed the Georgia Milestones Assessment Series last week. We had about 90 scholars in the 3 grade levels combined to test and are excited to see their results. Even in a pandemic, our teachers and scholars continued to work on mastering grade level standards despite the learning disruption from last school year. All students will take the iReady End of Year Diagnostic this week so that we can have an accurate measure of their growth from the fall assessment.

As we close out the school year, we will have Virtual End of Year Celebrations for each grade level. The dates for the events are below and you should have received information from your scholar's teacher regarding the events and access links.

May 18th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o Pre-K 9am-10am

o Kindergarten 10am-11am

May 19th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o First Grade 9am-10am

o 2nd Grade 10am-11am

May 20th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o 3rd Grade 9am-10am

o 4th Grade 10am-11am

May 25th (TEAMS links will be shared by teacher)

o 5th Grade 6pm

I would like to say thank you to our families who made Teacher Appreciation Week 2021 special for our very deserving teachers. Our theme for the week was "Bar None, You Are the Best!" Special thanks to our SGC for providing donuts and cupcakes for the dessert bar; PTA for the salad bar; Community partners Sandtown Pub for the food truck and Chick fil A for breakfast; Admin Team for the ice cream bar; and our Extraordinary Sunshine Committee for the "Nacho Average Teacher" Taco Bar. We had a blast celebrating our phenomenal staff.

As this year comes to an end, please pay close attention to information from the district regarding students with devices and the processes for those students who are leaving the district and those who will be transitioning schools. Be sure if you have received a Summer School invitation that you have registered. Be on the look out for information about summer programs and camps for students as well.

Greetings Dolphins!

We are coming to the end of what has been an unprecedented school year. Our awesome educators, school staff and you parents have done an excellent job of supporting our scholars! As we wind down the year, it is time to ensure we have the resources in place to continue to provide our scholars and wonderful school with the support and advocacy that they deserve.

PTA board members’ terms are up so our scholars need YOU! The following positions are open:

· Vice President

· Treasurer

· Recording Secretary

· Corresponding Secretary

I encourage you to consider running for a position as your scholar and school need your continued support. If you have questions and/or have interest in one of the positions, please send an email to aprandolphptapresident2021@gmail.com and someone will reach out to you. The election will be held on May 18th.

THANK YOU to everyone who signed up to participate in the Be the Change giving campaign that kicked-off at the end of March! Your generosity and cheerful giving helped raise just under $400 last month which will be used to support activities during Teacher Appreciation Week. Please continue to share the information with your family, friends, and neighbors.
