Canada is the world's largest producer and exporter of wild blueberries, also known as lowbush blueberries, these are mostly grown in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
Chicken Fried Steak
I chose this dish because Donald Driver grew up near Houston. Although he did not live in the same place for more than a school, as he had a different school for each year of elementary school, he remained near Houston, Texas. His dad was always in jail, and his stepdad stayed behind after his mom wanted to move again. When Donald and his family left his Stepdad, Sam, they became very poor. This is why I chose Chicken Friend Steak. It can be made by using recycled materials, and flour and the thin slice of meat is relatively inexpensive. Eventually, Donald entered the drug business, and would have easily been able to afford this dish. Because it is a Texas staple of foods, one that if someone were to go to Texas, he/she would not be able to leave without tasting, I felt that it would be the perfect dish to represent not only the setting of the novel, but Texas itself.
Mashed Potatoes
The book I read takes place in a women’s prison. When the main character, Piper, got caught for drug smuggling and money laundering, she received a sentence of 15 months in jail. She had never imagined that she would be caught in this situation, so she was terrified. When she was put in jail, she realized that it wasn’t that bad. When she saw the dinner menu, she was surprised at how delightful they sounded.
Pavlova
Pavlova is a very popular meringue-based dessert that has a crisp crust and a soft, light inside. It's often decorated with whipped cream and fresh fruit and served at celebratory meals. The dessert is named after the Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova after her tour in Australia. Although the Aussies believe that the dish was created for her by them, the New Zealanders think otherwise, believing they created the dish after she toured New Zealand. I choose this dish because well, who doesn’t like a fantastic dessert after a fantastic meal?
My character Chris McCormack is an Australian triathlete with a big passion for his sport which means a big appetite in his stomach. With his ambition to win, hence the title “I’m Here to Win”, McCormack talks about his adventures from being active as a kid to becoming one of the most decorated triathletes in the sport, ending his incredible career with the ultimate victory, the World Championship Ironman race in Kona, Hawaii.
